Most of us here will never see retirement anyways.

Now replaced by the new "American Dream" consisting of some form of windfall (lottery, disability, personal injury lawsuit) . . .

Retirement age should have been raised a few years ago to be honest. Its something that is going to have been done unless there is a drastic systematic change to how we do social security (which may or may not happen)

Why put off till tomorrow what can be done today? Cause tomorrow it will be somebody else's problem.

The first thing that needs to happen, is congress and the senate need to be FORCED to use Social Security. They know it fucking sucks, and thus don't pay into it and use it. They have their own retirement plan that actually works because it's not a pyramid scheme.

The first thing we need to do is revamp government.

Here's an idea:
How 'bout working toward saving & investing for one's own retirement, instead of relying on the government to provide one for you?

what would you have said to the people who were doing just that when the economic started to drastically shift, leaving them unskilled and at the wrong age to start picking up new skills to compete with a differently talented workforce?

The gov has to be prepared to provide for the benefit of the nation, but obviously we need to remain consistently vigilant on where exactly that line is drawn and how.

Sort of. You pay social security for older people and then, theoretically at least, when you reach that age others will pay your social security.
The big trouble with dumb bastards is that they are too dumb to believe there is such a thing as being smart.

Good idea!

Even though Dave Ramsey has been saying that exact stuff for some time now, it has been common knowledge for, well, longer than any of us have been alive (even if we count Thor's alledged past lives).

.. Why don't you just pay for your own retirement through all the years that you work? It's what we do in Australia, and it works at least. It's a type of tax, but it's for you, not for the government. But.. As the years move on, the cost of living goes up, so at the moment for my generation, we have to earn about AUS$1.5 million to have a good enough retirement. But then, the government also gives you about $200 per fortnight, so eh.

Have you heard Dave Ramsey talk about social security? Have you heard him do the math about making minimum wage your entire life and instead of investing your money in social security...you put it in mutual funds? The "Average" mutual fund will turn even the biggest looser into a millionaire.

Dave talks such straight forward no-nonsense advice.....I wish he was president.

Most Americans are useless at everything, why get upset about a slight change to the retirement age?

All you will have is the same idiots, voting for the same idiots, acting like imbeciles all day long.

Retire them at age zero, trust me, your average yank is useless at birth anyway.

Better still exterminate the middle-class Sperm of the Americans before they enter the ovum, it will save the rest of the world American PMT all day long.

It's not just Americans that are stupid. I'd be fine if half the worlds population died tomorrow...preferably the bottom half with regards to intelligence, honesty, beauty...shit...i'm gunna die tomorrow.

If not president, then surely head of the Treasury.

I wish more people would take his advice. It'll save us all the headache of trying to fix a broken system (social security).

You probably would qualify in the top half of one of those. Honesty, I'd guess from the post you just made...

Brilliant! I baited a middle class American idiot into getting slightly upset with my rhetoric, You Sir, are exactly the kind of targets I am aiming to send to the gas chambers.
