Admittedly i dont know much about her, but seemingly with the right amount of build she could be a pretty good choice for what he is looking for.

If I remember right she had a hand in why aerial hunting of Alaskan wolves is still legal. Other than that, I know nothing that about her that that article doesn't tell me.

Obviously, this is a move to woo the voters who liked Hillary Clinton purely because of her chromosomes.

Oh noes! Her husband works for big, scary, evil oil. :o Run away!

I bet the dems will capitalize on that.

Only chosen because she is a woman... I didn't expect McCain to play the gender/race card so blatently.

You obviously didn't get the cheesy "contribute" mailings with his trophy wife's picture on them.

This is turning out to be a real crappy choice between two master manipulator candidates. I've gone back and forth between O'Bama-McCain nearly every day of the convention. Last night O'Bama's velvety throat oratory left me ready to vomit. Dumb people are just being taken in my another charlatan redistributivist. Where does he think he would be right now if America did not hold the promise of gaining financial advantage as a result of hard work? I'll tell you where: he'd be in Kenya where his brothers are, living in a shack, because his mother would have said screw the US, I'm going to move to Africa with my husband who will be a big shot in the cabinet there and someday my son can be president of Kenya  and then reality hits :( .

And McCain seems to be equally going all out to show us what a spineless tool to political advisers he's become in just 8 years. I'm seriously appalled. How the hell can American's be so stupid to nominate always the worst candidates ON BOTH PARTIES! Maybe I'll vote for O'Bama and hope he gets lung cancer (he was a smoker prior to campaigning, but quit due to "appearances" of addiction) and steps down in the first week so Biden - who at least seems to be genuine - can take over.

"This topic needs a poll" . . . why? Was this one term Alaskan Governor a dancer in a previous life? Commenters on the news today referred to her as "good looking" and said she will add "a spark" on the campaign trail leading up to the elections.

"[...] I didn't expect McCain to play the gender/race card so blatently." ffs, it's already obvious that the current incarnation of McCain will say and do anything to win this election. I was impressed with him running against Bush back in 2000... until he showed that he had no spine by allowing Bush walk all over him by totally trashing his image with an 'unofficial' smear campaign that McCain never once acknowledged or responded to. I expect the Republicans to remind voters of their opponant's race at every opportunity, just short of using the "N word" and McCain's pledge of a clean campaign has already been broken.

His wife of 25 years his junior who was addicted to drugs at the time they started dating... while he was still married to his first wife.

I take it then, that you:

A) Are unfamiliar with the great speeches of the past.
B) Don't understand the art of oratory/public speaking and the talent necessary to learn the skill.
C) Consistently take the contrary position on most debatable questions.
D) Don't understand economics.
E) All of the above.

Clearly, it's E. If you want velvety throat oratory, look at Hillary Clinton. Her speeches were almost always all about her, and pulling out manipulative anecdotes. Obama is inspiring and well spoken. Something lacking in the current president, and a quality necessary in all of the best Presidents, from Washington to Jefferson to Madison to Lincoln to TR to FDR to JFK to Reagan to Clinton.

People with the gift for oratory are not always great leaders, but all great leaders are gifted orators.

Also, what I found most refreshing about Obama's speech last night was that so much of the material he used in "specifics" were right out of The Audacity of Hope, further proving that all claims (read: smears) that Obama is never specific are levied by the illiterate or purposefully ignorant.

Now wait a minute! McCain's ad blasting Obama for not picking Hillary seems a bit hypocritical. Going by his own logic in that ad, he should have picked Romney. Hey, Obama should make the exact same ad against McCain.

I know you're probably just trolling, but rethink your comment in relation to Biden's CV and the concerns most pressing upon the next administration.

Also, it used to be, at least in the USA, that when a company was looking for a new CEO, they would disregard the candidacy of people who had not ever suffered a setback in their lives. This was for the simple reason that if someone had demonstrated in the past that he was capable of picking himself back up after getting knocked down, he'd be able to handle any unforeseen tumult that could effect the company and recover or avoid it.

Biden has demonstrated, rather dramatically, that he is capable of overcoming such comebacks, both in those happening to him and those he created for himself.

(i.e. The tragic loss of his wife and daughter in 1972, and the foolish decision in 1987 to plagiarize paragraphs from a British candidate for Prime Minister's sublime speeches)

politicians are politicians........no matter what party....and you presume McCain's pick was because she is female, whilst Obama just picked "the right guy"......

Is that kool-aid grape flavored by chance?

An old, established, white guy is about what you can expect if you pick a random politician in the USA, seriously, how many politicians fitting that description are there?

libs can bash her on her political views, fair and square. I do think that she is a good choice. think of it, this is the election where history will be made. either a black man will be president or a woman will be vice president.

personally, I am liking obama more at this point for Pres. it is such a refreshing thing to actually listen to a speaker that can clearly convey the thoughts in his head that I am very excited to see how the election goes. i am so fed up with our current mumbling and stupid president that i can't hardly stand it.

What i dont seem to understand about the selection is that it seems to go against the grain, and against something that was working. Mccain was doing fairly well using an aggressive campaiging strategy that has worked well for GOP noms in the past few elections. He had a few non-issue specific points he could hit the opponent on, and there wasnt a great answer for any of them if a voter was going to look (imho at least) at more superificial aspects of electing a candidate.

Instead of doing this, which was working and had a decent chance of pulling things off, he veers in a completely different direction, pandering to a base that i think was already his. He loses credibility in the train of thought he had just made a fair amount of investment into. I just dont see him gaining what he could have gained had he made a pick that was more conventional and solid. I guess he can claim that he is going the change route here, but i dont think he can outchange obama in that message. Seems like he could have ran better pushing an experience edge.

Yes, exactly. Remember that election program thing I made? One lesson I learned from that a candidate had a much better chance by contrasting against the other as much as possible. Bad, bad move for McCain.
