Haha, no surprise. If half the members of our government were small spenders we wouldn't be nearly $10,000,000,000,000 in debt.

... Funny what Slate let slide by unmentioned... Alaska has the highest Native American population, as a percentage (near 20%) of all states. New Mexico, coming in second, has less than half that. Like anyplace else, the local Native American population receives massive quantities of cash from the Feds.

... That said, I admit I know next to nothing about Alaska, so there may very well be a plethora of other reasons.

The citizens of Alaska get tax refunds because of the oil. BIG tax refunds.

I admit that that is a pretty cool thing Palin has done.

you need to multiply that number by .00004 to find our ACTUAL debt. but still, the debt is ridiculious.

Hm...you sure? If we're only $400,000,000 in the hole, then I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Have you seen the recent ads claiming that if Obama is elected middle class taxes will go up?

When in reality, unless you are rich, it is Mcain who will cause our taxes to go up?

I'm sorry, it appears I' was misinformed. It appears that the actual debt is more like 400,000,000,000. I feal like a fool now... but still, less the half a trillion. And for all you CCer's in america who want to help stop this, there is an orginization that goes by CAGW(Citizens against government waste) That will send you a monthly e-mail about the wastful projects each state's reps are supporting, and they incourage you to write your reps. good group.

Uhm... that sounds more like the deficit. National debt is something like $8 trillion, last I checked... was pretty close to 9, though. Not ten yet, but getting there...
