I'm petitioning against Ofcom - the communications regulator. And a number of other agencies
I need as many people as possible to join my facebook group and bring people along and add to the numbers.
It focuses on the fact there are too many repeats on TV, and we're getting mugged by the regulator and government:
"Are you frustrated with the number of repeats shown on television. Think that you TV licence and/or satellite/cable subscription is too high for content that you've already seen? This is the group.
I want to attract as many members to highlight to Ofcom and the government that there is currently little benefit in digital TV.
Why pay money to watch the same show on Sky1 and then have it repeated on Sky2 the next day?
Why does it help the viewer to have Eastenders on BBC1 at 8pm and repeat it at 11pm on BBC3?
Why is it acceptable to pay for a channel that advertises a show like Top Gear, or QI and only have the licence for three series of that show. After a month or two, there are no new episodes to watch?
I've tried to take this complaint to:
* Ofcom
* Trading Standards
* The Ministry of Culture
* ASA (for Sky advertising they've got x100 channels, of which half of them are just showing something a sister channel has already shown)
* and Parliament (via my local MP)
None of them "want to know" and some have tried to shift the responsibility to another body.
I'm still waiting to hear something in Parliament about this, or a response via my MP to BERR (Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform)
We need as many members as possible to post with examples of repeats (and lack of choice in advertised content - only series 1 of a specific show on a channel, of the actual 6 series recorded) they don't like and to sign the petition to take it to Ofcom, who are conducting the PSB review, and don't feel it's an issue - to try and force their hand and submit this to the second half of the review.
Get out the paper, look for the (R) in the listing. You'll be amazed at the number of them during 7pm-10pm slots.
We're being dumbed down, ripped off, and given no value for any money whatsoever. Remember, the companies buying the rights to these shows are getting lots of money from the extra advertising.
If you thought it was bad enough with continous shoing of One Foot in the Grave and Dad's army, this is much, much worse."
