Apple Class Action Lawsuit

Postby bedub1 on Tue Sep 16, 2008 2:35 pm

I'm thinking about filing a class action lawsuit against apple for their continued improper use of the word "sync". You CANNOT "sync" any apple device to another apple device, or a computer, or a MAC computer. In fact what occurs is you "copy" and "delete". A synchronization is a 2 way street. Unfortunately iTunes and the iPods etc don't do that. My house burned down and my computer was destroyed, everything is on my ipod/iphone etc....yet I can't get it to "sync" with the brand new computer my insurance company gave me. It's only action at the moment is "delete and copy". This is false advertising. It has been occurring for years. It deceives customers into believe the devices will do something they won't. This is causing catastrophic harm to the users who are under the impression, through the advertising, that the devices will "sync".

Who's with me and wants to join in?

Are you joking?

Because honestly, that's not going to work.

Yes I am joking. My house didn't burn down and I didn't get a new computer. But this one died so I had to rebuild it. I claim apple flat out lied when they claim their devices sync. iTunes says it:

The iDevice "Owners Name" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase the contents of it and sync it with this blank library?

That is the only option. There needs to be an option for "actually...the other itunes library that you think this is synced with, has actually be destroyed, and this is now syncing with nothing. So what I need you to do is sync, not delete, and copy everything from the idevice to the computer."

Write them a letter.

Don't delete the contents of your iPod yet. I'm sure it's possible to get the data OFF the iPod, just maybe not by the average consumer, or with the hardware/software they've provided to you.

Let us know how this turns out, I'm curious. Even though it doesn't really apply to me, I am personally philosophically against personal media players.

Ah yes.

I am familiar with this one, having had a similar experience. Apparently its all to do with piracy or something.

My advice to you is to read the iTunes terms and conditions booklet, then read it again, then burn it and shoot yourself.

You CAN go through the email route with Apple trying to get everything done nice and legally, or you can buy an Archos and download all the music you already paid for for free via Bittorent and live in sunshine and happiness for the rest of your days, secure in the warm knowledge that you're no longer one of the Apple zombies, prizing style and conformity over substance and basic humanity.

This never worked well even when you had options to figure out what the hell way you wanted things to be copied. The old Palm handheld devices used to give you a few choices, none of which made much sense or did what you thought they would do and at the end of the day you typically ended up going to and archive somewhere and hoping you could get your shit back because you "synched" with an empty file.

Do any of you remember the old Windows "briefcase"? Now that was the way sync should be done... just ask every time which file to keep.

They do it so that you can't take your iPod to your friend's house and give them all your music. They call it "syncing" legitimately, because your iPod does keep track of play counts, etc, and give that information to the computer. What you need to get is one of many free programs off the internet that will do what iTunes can't legally do--copy music from your iPod to a computer that doesn't have that music. I reccomend iPodRip; the "trial" version did everything I needed it to do in a day, then I deleted it.

You can get programs that'll take whats on your iPod and put them on your computer. Like this one:

Terrible idea.

Also, there's software out there that will allow you to take music from your iPod to your computer. But I guess that's not really your point is it?

So once again: Terrible idea.

Actually, I thought of posting it first, but then decided to let one of you do it.

I'm glad we've cleared up this misunderstanding.

Do it the easy way and just go rooting through the hidden files and folders to get the tracks. The track information will be on each song but it may well be kept in many different folders and the tracks will not actually be filenamed after their tracks - just open them in a media player though.

Or, you could check out the latest non-DRM nut mp3 seller, http://www.7digital.com/music

Try googling iPodRip; the trial will do everything you need, and you can delete it before the time comes to pay for it.
