Should priviledges be granted for in-clan tournament and inter-clan challenges?

Yes, I know that you have the ability to add a "tag" to the label, but that isn't the point. The point is that if you are using them for in-clan things there are tons of games floating around with a tournament label that have nothing to do with that tournament.

why is that such a bad thing?

The tournament organiser knows whats going on, TDs don't really need to know exacyly what is going on in each tourny.

EDIT: In fact don't bother answering that question - it is lack that we need to convince, not you.

How about issuing tags like LODClanJan-08 so that you only need 12 a year or something like that etc.

I would have thought so too, until I started discovered privileges being abused by several organizers. At which point it began to be clear not everyone could be trusted to use them properly. ;)

So here is the thing in my mind:

I personally do feel that clans should be allowed to have someone who can create empty games for their clan in order for them to play in-clan games with some type of tag. I also believe that in-clan tournaments are an important part of the site.

With all of that said, Lack has certain things he wants to see with in-clan tournaments, clan rankings, etc, etc, etc. There will be improvements in the future, additions that all of you will love I'm sure, but you are going to have to wait.

Lack knows many things he can do to improve the tournament system, and he will, but I think all of you will greatly appreciate having the forum upgrade first as well as a couple of other things.

Nice post OP and again your showing us what a great Mod you are. But................ :D

Why cant we have a temporary fix for now! Surely thats not to much of a problem? Maybe grant the Clan leader (you can check usergruops for this) TP's!! However if the clan leader is a freemium than the clan will not get these Tp's!!

Where's the harm in that?

The harm in it is that Lack said no. Simple as that. Trust me, when Lack goes full bore into improving the clan/tournament systems none of you will be disappointed. BUT...............right now they are not the priority. :)

Go ask the thread creator. :) Here's my more deep inside opinion that I personally feel:

If Lack were to wait 6 months and then give us every single thing any of us could possibly think up in one massive update there would be a gigantic party and everyone would be happy for 2 months, and then after 3 months everyone would be complaining for new features all over again, and nobody would be happy with what they were just given.

Now, as for me, I would much prefer a small-medium sized updated every 9-12 weeks or so with a couple things here and there for the next 5 years than everything all at once and nothing new for 5 years. Lack has to be careful about portioning out things a little bit at a time so that there is always something new to be waiting for.

For example: The new forum upgrade will bring about several site features that have been hot topics in the past. When all of them get here, there will be toys for everyone and people will take the time to learn how to use them, adapt them to their gameplay, tournament organizing, and other such things. Then, a few months later, Lack will have something new for us, perhaps a new game style, or a new points system, or a new clan ranking system, and everyone will be excited again.

See what I'm getting at? Bending to the public's wishes on everything all the time isn't the best way to run the site because what if heaven forbid all of you geniuses out there stopped coming up with ideas.

we only want to be able to play inclan matches in a effective and co-ordinated matter...We arent asking for someone to reinvent the wheel, or even add anything new to the site!!! The tools are there to do this right now and not have to wait another 5 years to be ale to play the way we want to right now!

might also solve the problem of pissing people off for nothing!!

Let me be frank with you.

You already can play in-clan matches in an organized and coordinated manner, the only problem is that half of you are too lazy to put in the extra 20 minutes of effort that is required to do it.

That, my friend is the truth, whether you feel willing to accept it or not. ;)

Thats not true at all.....If you want to set up a clan challenge you must get the people involved to set it up as a private game.

This is a highly unorganized way of the 100's of games some clans play in house! Not to mention the trouble of each different person setting them up and then relying the information back to the organiser. The organsier then informing hte offer team!! Then collecting all the wins by clicking on different players name.

In The clan im in we always have a different partner so we can truly play well with everyone.

But you changed the subject and shifting the blame!

Let me prove my point then.

At the moment, Generation One (that would be my clan) is currently setting up the games for a challenge with Mythology Clan. Let's go through the steps and see how complicated it really is to do, shall we? :)

1. Each clan leader discusses what they would like to include in the challenge. (Not hard by any means. Takes only a handful of PMs to do. Not to mention, it would have to happen anyways.) So far, nothing complicated.

2. Each clan must find their players. (Easily done within their clan forums, and would have to be done anyways, so therefore, still no time lost, or extra effort consumed). Still not complicated.

3. One clan must set up the games. (All this takes is the player in charge sending a quick PM to a single player to request a game be made with certain settings and a PM response with the game number. Also the creator is to inform their partner--if it is a team game--and let the organizer know they are in). Here is where you lose, what, perhaps an hour or two sending some PMs. Not such a big deal.

4. Once the organizer has received their PMs from their clan members, they put them all in nice list and send it off to the other clan. (Yep, pretty simple, not complicated, and the other clan can easily join the games).

5. Soon enough, all the games are joined and life goes on happily and merrily for all. :)

Do you see what I mean? It really is not hard at all. ESPECIALLY if you have experienced organizers in your clan. When all is said and done you have to wait perhaps an extra couple of days to get everyone in their games (which happens with ANY tournament, so it's no different.)

So, I say to you again, if you are not willing as clans to put forth that amount of effort, which is negligible indeed, why should Lack consider making it even easier for you?

The same process applies, you simply don't have to send it to another clan to get their players in. As a matter of fact, it is even EASIER in clan because you can use a forum thread to do most of the work, instead of PMing folks

op your above post doesnt suggest a solutio to the issue i raised regarding freemiums playing other freemiums - this to me is the single biggest problem in not having privs for clan challenges - if you have a solution for that im all ears

This is the solution: They upgrade to premium membership. The ability to create and join games that are password protected is a premium feature. At the moment because there is no system for in-clan tournaments, they need to either upgrade to premium or wait until there is a system.

It is bad business to allow freemium members unlimited access to password protected games as it takes away an incentive to purchase premium.

The whole thing is now ruined - and for what? some silly rule that serves no purpose. If you can explain to me how running this tournament is detrimental to the cc community I would be amazed. All you have done is upset a whole bunch of lack's customers which has resulted in me at least refusing to make any more financial contribution to this site, at least until some modicum of common sense is injected into it.

Now perhhaps you may care to inform us uneducated rabble how that is good for lack's business.

I myself have run businesses for the past 25 years and just about the 2 most important things I have learned in that time is to always be awarre of what your customer wants and sstrive to provide it, and that it is a whole lot easier to keep existing customers than to try and make new ones.

You and lack would do well to heed these words.

agreed but its the freemium case that is to me the biggest reason why this rule should be changed.

Yorkie, I just went through all your members listed in that tournament, and only 3 of them were freemiums, with all 3 in different groups. I know it looks like every set of games has rotating partners, or whatever, but joining in an exact order is not a huge deal as long as the right people are partnered. All you have to do is have those freemiums' partners create the games, and therefore you don't need privs.

As for the tournament itself, I don't see why you can't post that exact list that you posted here and rely on your clan members to step up and make the games correctly. I'm sure your fellow clan members are smart enough to do that. Generation One is starting a tournament with the Mythology Clan. Optimus told team captains to create the necessary games and then submit the numbers/passwords to him to pass along. Sure it's a much smaller and simpler format, but yours can still be done that way. Just continue on in this method and you don't have to worry about privs (even if it would be "easier").

As for lack's business, do you not think he's doing a good job providing this site?? Conquer Club has been around for just 2 years, and it is a very in-depth and well-run site. Lack works hard on getting updates to the public. You can't expect to get everything you want immediately when you want it (and this goes for everybody). After just 2 years, lack has a very large to-do list. You know how long it took to get Fog of War put onto the site. Lack has a plan for how he wants this site to progress, and I doubt he really cares about what has worked in your businesses. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it would work for him. Lack's plan is to wait until phpBB publishes the Rivals program before he allows for any official clan tournaments.

Moral of the story: The current policy won't be changed just because you want it to change. There are other ways to host a private tournament than using tournament privileges. I know you are an effective tournament organizer, but if you really want help running a private games only tournament, politely ask another organizer.

You gotta be kidding! In the 1 v 1 tournament i ran I spent half my time remaking games cos the wrong person joined.

And how do you get the game numbers and results of each game. I have been using a game label so that in game finder I can immediately look up all the games, to collate results. Without that eacj player would have to pm me the game number then I would have to send out individual pms for each game. Then someone would join the wrong game, so I would have to go back to the original game maker and ask him to recreate it. Then when we do get the game finally started correctly I have to be informed of the game number and do a search for each game individually.....multiply that by 36 games x 4 divisions = 144 times!!!!!!!
Much more work involved,

Agreed- he has done a wonderful job with the site and I have much respect for his skills...but...You are missing the point here completely. Lack does not need to do anything. The system is already in place. I have already been running this tournament successfully.

The point is that I have lost my privileges for using them to host an in-clan tournament. All Lack has to do is say yes this will be allowed.

Hmm, how many businesses do you know where knowing what your customer wants and striving to provide that is not good business sense?

Just a small correction: rivals is not published by phpBB and its already been released

Further details here:

http://www.gotbase.org/

hopefully this will be rolled out when the forums upgrade to phpBB3.0 (released since December)

Don't now why people on here don't like being cooks, remember under siege: A former SEAL, now cook, is the only person who can stop a gang of terrorists when they sieze control of a US Navy battleship.

Nope, if you read more carefully and dig a little deeper you will realize the Rivals still has a long way to go and is still full of bugs.

i realise it still has bugs and im only too well aware its arrival on this site could be a long ways away yet hence the topic of this thread - obviously if rivals is ready to be rolled out soon the debate in this thread becomes academic but as op correctly pointed out that does not seem to be the case hence the need for an interim solution as we may be waiting some time yet for rivals..

Why isn't anyone listening? Why, why, why?????

You already have and interim solution. It's called PRIVATE GAMES.

Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean it isn't an interim solution.

op i hear you loud and clear that solution works fine for premium players, other contributors to this thread might disagree but I don't. My biggest issue is the stuation regarding freemium players - I totally support the current limits that apply to freemiums in general but as many clans have freemiums in membership it seems a pity that they have to be excluded from taking part in games with other freemium players - obviously this can't be done using public games.

Maybe someone could just set up the in clan and clan challenge games involving freemiums as private games work for others (private games have their drawbacks but as op has pointed they do work)
