Well cardiff the castle can become Dinefwr, and the territory can become gwent easily enough. The changing of names in the castle will be easy as well.Guiscard wrote:There wasn't a caste at Cardiff in anything like the modern sense of the word. There was a Roman fort, but it fell into disuse after the Romans left. The only Welsh castle applicable to the period would really be Dinefwr, although even then its more tradition than evidence. That would come in Defet province, as its near Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, but you could get away with it being in Cardiff. That said, Gwent would be a better name for Cardiff as a province. Furthermore, ball room is a little silly. I know the castle plans don't realate to real life, which is fine, but perhaps it should be courtyard?
Easily changed.Guiscard wrote:Dornsatete should be Dornsaete.
So are you saying i should call the castle Londonburh or E. Seaxe?Guiscard wrote:Londonwic wasn't really the city, that was the name of the Saxon trading villiage to the west. The walled city itself would be Londonburh. The Seaxe name is applicable to a degree (although it did come under Mercian control too) but I'd go with E. Seaxe, because it makes it seem like the centre of Saxon power at the moment (which it wasn't to any degree). It wasn't a castle, anyway, but a walled town. Don't know how this affects the map, really...
Thanks.Guiscard wrote:Other than that, liking it a lot!
Defet is a tad small for a province. I origionally had the castle as langurig in pouis. Maybe we should move back to that?Telvannia wrote:Well cardiff the castle can become Dinefwr, and the territory can become gwent easily enough. Call the territ. E Seaxe, Call the city Londonburh (I had no idea about that one, interesting bit of information)Easily changed.Guiscard wrote:Dornsatete should be Dornsaete.

Also as walled towns go, i think changing it would be not worth it in the long run. Because most of the legend would have to change to accommodate a walled town as well as 3 castles

Good stuff. The city / settlement thing is actually something I wasn't aware of until I availed myself of my yearly guilty pleasure - Bernard Cornwell novels.Balsiefen wrote:Nice to see a historian here Guis![]()

A good series, actually, if you're interested in the period. Not too far off historically, and he makes you well aware of the bits he has made up.

Sorry i forgot all about that. I will get it done with the next update.lanyards wrote:I think I mentioned this before, but Munster is still spelled wrong on both maps.
It was 'slightly' too long to fit, so i had to abbreviate it to North.Guiscard wrote:Is there a reason why North is not Northumbria?
Easily Changed.Balsiefen wrote:-mabye replace cardiff's ballroom with an armoury.
-Make Aberdeen Aberdon(which i think is its dark age name)
I can easily make it 700x700. Is that preferable?gimil wrote:The large has blurred when you resized it, also does the map really need to bee 800x800? I feel 700x700 would be more than sufficient.
well it doesnt need to be so large and its blurred, so yes it would be preferableTelvannia wrote:Easily Changed.Balsiefen wrote:-mabye replace cardiff's ballroom with an armoury.

Good to see you making an appearence in the foundry again guiscardGuiscard wrote:Any progress on the change of name for Cardiff I suggested earlier?
Furthermore, I'd really like to see Northumberland if at all possible. It is an important name from the period, a key area of Dark Age Britain, and one still with us today, and I think the map would benefit from having it written out in full.
