Tourney Results in Profiles?

Post by Tieryn »

So, a thought I just had... Once we get some system in to formalise tournaments and make them an integrated part of the site, I think it'd be really cool to have our tournament achievements (as players) listed in our profile.

Have a small section called Tournament History, which would contain
03/14/1526 "Joined ______ Tournament"
dd/mm/yyyy "Came 5th in ______ Tournament"
dd/mm/yyyy "Dropped out of _______ Tournament"

It would have the multi-fold effect of praising winners for their results. Maybe 1st places could be all big and shiny and stuff, and a special section for "Tournament Wins". But it'd be great to show when you made 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th as well!

On the flip side, it would show us on immediate quick glance, who joins a lot of tourneys and then drops out of them. (of course, there would be a system where appeals could be made, and obviously this puts a fair bit of responsibility and possibility for abuse into the hands of the TO, but then again so does anything... when used wrong).

And these ______ Tournaments, could also be links to the threads for their tourneys. That would make it fantastic for people like me, who basically only play tournament games, and can't keep track of which ones are which, (cause it doesn't tell me in the game window... OP - could we push this? I think it'd be a very small amount of code, and incredibly useful)

Also for people like me who are bad at keeping track of their own tournament threads :P I've never really gotten into the Ongoing thread... I'm a heads down bums up player :P Perhaps even a link to the tournament thread from the GAME window - now -that- would be cool. Each tourney, when created by OP, fills in an extra box saying "Thread ID", and there is a little, clickable link from each game window into that tournament thread!!!

Anyway, what do people think of this idea? I really like it... But then again, I would :P I know the guy who thought of it, and he's pretty cool.... Wow it's early in the morning *blink*

So would this be a tourney organizer's responsibility to post in each player's profile (much like a game player's responsibility for feedback?)

I like the idea but I'm just checking on the way it works.

The Rivals system had a way to do it automatically. :)

Ah the long rumored Rivals system. Like the unicorn, the dodo and the Lambourgini it is searched for with much anticipation and is sighted less often than bigfoot.

I think it would be neat even though I cannot do good in a tournament to save my life. :?

Well, it would be a little from column A, a lilttle from column B.

Depending on the structure of the tourney, and the criteria for winning (and any system would have to take in to account the many varied ways of doing this).

Rather than be like feedback, upon completion of a tourney, in order to get it moved into the tourney organisers "Completed Tourneys" list (also in their profile) they would have to complete a "Tourney Report" or something. This would be vetted by someone (or a machine pretending to be someone) and the information entered into the system. We record all this data about all these games, but no-one ever goes back and uses it...

Honestly, if I was to give an intelligent program a list of games that it was watching for a tourney, it should easily be able to pick out <whatever condition> and report based on that. It's just text parsing.

I almost think we could create a TO++ language, or little scripting language, where you script the conditions for wins, and they then work in with the system. Of course, this would require some more technical knowledge, but there would be people around (myself included) who would be happy to write scripts for people's tourneys. And they wouldn't really be needed until near the end.

As Achievements is on the To-Do list, that could probably be incorporated with it. Let me see if I can find the link...
