Team Passwords - Doubles/Triples/Quads Tourneys will love it

Post by Tieryn »

So... Anyone who has run a team tournament with dubs, trips or quads, will know one of the MAJOR challenges is getting people into the right game, in the right position, such that they are on the right team.... I just had a quick think, and was in the right frame of mind, and came up with this:

When creating the game, you specify a different password for each team.

eg: triple-doubles game

Team 1 pass : tripstourneyA
Team 2 pass : tripstourneyB
Team 3 pass : tripstourneyC

Then when each player joins the game, the password they use to join it automatically places them in a spot. either 1or2, 3or4, 5or6. You could get players 5&6 joining first, or 5, then 3, then 4, then 1, then 2, then 6...

They would still go in the -right- place, because of the password they used. All it would take is a couple of extra input variables, and the ability for games to have multiple passwords, and specify where a player would go (not much, I know! Sheesh!)

What do people think of this idea?

that'd be cool...though i think eventually there will be a "choose your spot in the game" thing so you could just post a link that would auto join them as whatever....i've also seen some organizers send out the pm to one team, and once they join, send it to another (i know...it takes a while but it works)

Yes, that is what I do. Because you also often get a PM with a password, and then find out that you can't join yet, because there is only 1 player in yet from the other team, so you have to check back later a few times again. So I always send out the info to team 1 first, and when I notice they have joined (I check for it 1 or 2 times a day) I send the info to team 2.
For 2 teams this is OK, but for 8 player doubles games it could take quite long to fill the game if you PM all 4 teams 1 after each other. 4 different passwords doesn't sound like a good idea. Better is to let people choose the spot in the game themselves, so you can just tell team 2 to join in spots 3 & 4, team 3 in spots 5 & 6 etc.

Or you can also do it this way:
The tournament organiser can put the names in the game himself and the players only have to confirm they are in.

Surprisingly, my Amazing Race games filled quickly in spite of me sending all 3 teams PMs at the same time.
