A Tournament with nil points but still recognised

Post by Fruitcake »

A full on knock out competition a la Tennis tournos etc. Open to all, but with the 'seeded' players at various points within the board.

Simple Example: say there are 64 entrants. This is split into 4 sets of 16, with the top seeded players filling one slot in each (a la Wimbledon). The seeded would naturally be the most senior ranks. (there would always have to be a system such as 64,128,256,512 etc. I imagine we could well end up with 2048, 4096 or even 8192 entrants! A real feather in the cap of the finalists)

The competition would carry nil points, however, the winner, runner up and 3rd place could have say a Star by their name for the duration, that is to say until the next comp. The Star would denote their finishing place, with the standard message (Winner, Runner up, 3rd place) showing if someone else put the cursor over it.

This would mean any ranks might cause an upset and could feel proud for having this record (we could even have a page of results with the list of previous winners.)

I put this forward a thought....as there (along with dice issues) seems to be a lot of discussion about the points system.

We already have easy points of reference (Tennis etc) so could plagurise that system.

This reminds me of a tournement called 2007 Roland Garos. It was exactly like this. If you can make it for all 4 tourneys. Auetralian open at Australian map, French open at France map, Wimbledon at Brittish map and US open at USA map.

Wow...I thought this was dead in the water.

Indeed, that would be good.

We could then have a Champion of Champions using the Classic Map.

Like a masters tournement. I run davis cup now and would like to run the four Grand Slam with some kind of Masters that are going on rank where all winners and Final players are Qualified.

You would need to convince Lack to allow games where no points were exchanged. However, he isn't too keen on that idea at the moment.

I think the points should be at stake. That way the top player who's seeded with lower players has more to play for.

If the scoreboard is our league, this can be our cup competition. (See, like everything else, it all connects to football.)
