Hey All - Has there ever been a tournament where a single player challenges a clan, and agrees to deul the most junior ranked clansmen up through the highest ranked clansmen? The clan and the duelist would pick maps, game settings and duel format...
I think you're sweating the details a little too much here Opti.
Maybe instead of challenging a clan, we get people to enter either as dojo members or deulists. I'm thinking like 4+ players to a dojo. If the deulist wins, they move on to take on any other winning dojos. If there are no more winning dojos, any winning deulists play off in a final.
Or you could have 6-10 players assigned to a dojo. Dojo's would be assigned "warring" dojo's, and the most junior player from each dojo would face off against everyone from the 2nd most junior member of the opposition dojo up to the sensai, until they lost a match. Back at the dojo, either everyone was defeated by the challender, or if not, then the most junior ranking surviving member becomes the deulist and continues the deuls. If a deulist defeats a dojo, the duelist (and his dojo) get paired up with the surviving members of another dojo.
He's not just sweating the details. These details are very important because Tournament Privileges are not currently available for Clan Tournaments. The tournament must have at least 8 non-reserved, public spots to be considered public. You're idea in the original post would be private since that is one person.
The concept guys - a single player against a group - whatever you want to call it - sack a kingdom, climb the ant-hill, whatever, I don't care. All I want to know is has it been done or, if not, attempted and abondoned or whatever you guys call tournaments that recruit but don't fill up. And if you don't like it, poll in. I'm not going to waste time mapping out tournament details if the idea doesn't float.
The point is that if you want to make you (or whoever one person) against a clan, then it's really not a public tournament and it probably won't be allowed (though it's up to important people of the site ).
But if you wish to make a tournament where there's some bunch of people against 1 person and everybody has a chance to win then I think that it might be a public tournament (but then I believe it depends on exact details). Just my 2 cents.
I'm not sure if this tournament is what you meant exactly but here's an example 1vAll tourneys. Clicky
"Thou shalt accept thy dice rolls as the will of the Gods" (Church of Gaming) "amazzony is a beast" (Woodruff)
Thank you amazzony for answerring my question - that around-the-world concept is the basic idea. I guess we'll give it some time before trying to go for the same style game play.
The only thing my idea had that the Around-the-world tournment doesn't is the idea of a heirarchy in the defender ranks... an idea conceived so high "ranks" would not be aprehensive about losing to grunts and getting busted down to private or such by the end of the tournament.

So how did you do in the first round attack?
The thing with the around the world is that it takes forever to finish. At least it seems like that.
About the ranks hierarchy... I think that it's done in one tournament that is one Ongoing right now... but I don't remember which one, sorry. I'll try to look it up. It was something like Proper Ladder tournament or something to do with Ladder I think.
And I'm doing well, I took down first one and now trying to win all the maps
i was actually thinking of doing something similar to what you stated in the top at one point with my clan... only backwords, my clan consisting of... 16 people or so? anyone can challange and you must win your way to the top, only problem is that one of two things will happen
A) im going to have a constant flow of people coming in, not wait on sign ups but let the games go as soon as someone wants to try, thereby making it not so much a tournament
B) if i wait and sign many up then itll blog up that first member you must fight, fighting against 16 players all at once can be quite stressfull on the points, especially when say you are challanged by a plethora of cadets and cooks
you need to be a certain rank - in the movies the wandering challenger always had some secret training from a master as a child. think american ninja. so a minimum rank of sergeant. or sergeant first class if that's what my rank is when launched.
Thanks everybody for the ideas. I decided to put this one on hold and instead go with a FIFA style tournament (it's called Easter Rising - theme is Ireland rebellion of 1916). I'll make a shameless plug - please go check it out.
Funny Greenoaks... you know, I have a tournament that is in recruit mode (Brigade Commander) where I tried to have a minimum seargeant rank for the "boss" player (in fact, it was quads, so as to spread around some of the pain), but I must say it hasn't generated much interest...
