Celtic manager Gordon Strachan expressed shock after losing 1-0 to 10-man Motherwell and confessed he wanted to "erase it from my memory".

The defeat all but ended Celtic's hopes of retaining their SPL title and Strachan said poor finishing was key.

"I will have to suffer with the rest of the fans who have Celtic at heart. We didn't take our chances and couldn't keep a clean sheet," he told BBC Sport.

"There's a fear among our fans that our eivals will win the league."

Strachan said his team's performance in the opening 25 minutes was "easy on the eye" before Motherwell scored with their first attempt on goal.

The Celtic manager refused to concede the title to Rangers and said his side would keep "plugging away" until the end of the season.

"You play each game to build up pride or regain pride and that's what we have got to do," he said.

"There's nothing I can do about the criticism, but whatever you get it doesn't compare to getting beat by Motherwell."

ok im raging atm at celtic, but adrian you are showing exactly what is wrong with celtic fans and you should be ashamed. strchan has won the league in his first 2 seasons got us through to the Cl last 16 two seasons in a row, and because of one poor season not only do you want him out but you are tacking the piss out of him and calling him shite? where would man united be now if fergie had left after his first few seasons in charge where he won nothing. If strachan is given another season he will turn it around, unfortunately i have to admit walter smith is an excellent manger and strachan is not the first to lose out to him and for one trophyless season to get rid of him would be stupid. Had Kevin 'cheating bas' Thompson not scored that goal when he did last week i honestly believe we would have won that game and went on to win the league we were really unfortunate to lose that goal from a leading position, i admit we have had a few shocking performances this season ie motherwell(1-0), aberdeen(1-0), hearts(loss in cup) and falkirk(1-0 win) we have also had a few brilliant ones milan, shaktar benfica home games and aberdeen(5-1) and kille (5-1). So stop blaming everything on strachan and give him a bloody chance!
