CCC Masters Super Finals

Post by Zemljanin »

It's somewhat rude to open entire thread just because of specific idea, connected with specific issue, which is covered by it's own thread. But I haven't seen a better option.
Mi idea is 2-3 months old, but I wanted to present it after last CCC Masters tourney finishes. I wasn't fast enough, though...
When I posted my idea, thread was already moved to finished tournaments sub-forum. I mean, a copy remained in "ongoing" (otherwise I couldn't see it, in the first place), but when you post in moved thread, it moves on top only in present sub-forum, not in former. So although my post is almost two full days old, I believe that nobody saw it. Instead of bothering you with long philosophy, I'll now just copy that post:

Congratulations rallison!!

Now we should play "super-final" tournament to determine an absolute champion :)

We had 4 divisions with 3 finalists each. These 12 players should play in 3 groups. Every group should contain one finalist from each former division. In super-super-final should play four players - winners of those 3 groups and the best runner up. What do you think?
I mean, division 1 is undoubtedly weaker than division 4, but whoever reached 3 players final in 180 (!) players tournament - deserves a chance to fight for absolute championship.

P.S. You don't have to offer us premium, we'll play anyway (at least I think so). Just make some beautiful, creative tournament, as you always do :D

I think that idea is clear and I'd like to hear some opinions, especially from Optimus Prime, Gozar and cairnswk

Glad to hear you are interested in this idea, Zemljanin. :)

The idea is being bounced around between Optimus and I, and hopefully we can get cairnswk in here as well.

At the very least I would like to see a champions game with the four winners. (Maybe on Cairns Coral Coast)

Stay tuned for more details that will follow. rallison is going on vacation for a brief time, and hopefully we can have things ready when he is back. ;)

Gozar, i can be inagreeance with that.

My stipulation is that if they want to have a semi-final for 12 and a grand final for 4, that the semi-final be held on three games for 4 players freestyle/flat rate/fog on Waterloo, and the Final for 4 be on Cairns Coral Coast seq/flat rate/fog!

There will be no premium offered as this had already been played for.

It would be up to yourself and/or Optiumus Prime to set this up if you wish.

I certainly will, thank you :D

I am taking this conditions as still open, so I'll comment and give some suggestions.

a) Fog of War
I never played fogged game and have virtually no chance against experienced player(s). So I'd consider playing only if all my 11 opponents are also pure "virgins" as I am. Even in that case, It's far from certain that I would play...

b) Freestyle
I am not at all interested in that kind of a game. Even if I don't hate freestyle concept, I certainly wouldn't play, because I just can't afford so dedicated sitting in front of a monitor. So, if this tournament would be freestyle - I definitely shall not play.

However, we're still in the phase of discussion, so I'll continue.

c) Cairns Coral Coast
Very nice map (although I easily lost my only game played on it ). However, it's a little bit too normal  (therefore not difficult enough). I don't think it's an ideal map for super-super-final of 720 players tournament. Off course, it's absolutely good enough for some earlier stages...

d) Waterloo
What could I say about Waterloo? I just begun my very first game on this map and I already fell in love (although I don't see much farther than my nose  ). This map is truly masterpiece!! Perhaps the very best map on CC. Undoubtedly perfect crown for such a tournament!
However, all big maps have a well known drawback - they're not very suitable for short games. In 4 players game on Waterloo, if I'm not mistaken, first player would have 8 (!) units bonus! Obviously, last player would be dead meat...

It's obvious that I'd like for all games to be Standard, Sequential, Sunny. When it concerns offered maps, I like them. But, I'd suggest reversal - Cairns Coral Coast in qualifications, Waterloo in final game. There are two concrete proposals:

A) Three groups of four players, as I suggested earlier, but six players go to final game (Winner and runner up of each group). This way, starting bonus on Waterloo would be 5, which is pretty acceptable on such complicated map.

B) But Cairns Coral Coast is also a fairly big map - 60 countries, if I'm not mistaken. That means 5 units starting bonus, which is not to last players' liking. Because of that, it would be better to have only two groups - two winners, two runner ups and two "bronze medal" players in each group (also very logical division!). Three player from each group should go to the finals.
This is very practical solution, if one or two players don't play, we/you can have one group of 6 and one of 5, or two groups of 5...

For the end, one apology for such a long post. I am not trying to be organizer, but I'm obviously so deeply involved...

P.S. I think that both games should be flat rate, but I'll explain it in one of the future posts...

P.P.S. The moment you take this tournament seriously, you should invite other 11 players to join discussion

Zemljanin...thankyou for your comments and suggestion.
As this was my tournament...i believe i have right of say as to what maps are played.
Take the ones offered or nothing. This is not open for discussion.
You are the one who wants a Grand Final of the winners who have already won.
I don't see because you have not played fog as an excuse to battle against others who have. And simply because Cairns Coral Coast is tre-ordinaire as you so politely put it, does not rule it out of being the final map.
Waterloo is the qualifier, and Cairns Coral Coast remains the final map. I said it was a stipulation, not something that is up for discussion.

If you are not happy with this, then you are quite welcome to organise your own tournament, Gozar and Optimus Prime are not bound to operate simply within this tournament, but you may not call it the CCC Masters Super Finals.

Those are my conditions. :)

Sorry if I offended you, CairnsWK. I just wanted to contribute. Of course that it is your tournament.

You haven't offended me Zemljanin. I am pleased you have requested and made comment, but it was not something that was open for discussion. :)

Key issue is that English is not my native language. I didn't exactly understand word "stipulation" and I didn't consulted a dictionary before I send my post. The rest is history... :)

P.S. If I think that some conditions could be better, that doesn't mean that don't want to play. Decisive reason for not playing is freestyle. It's not even a matter of my will - I'm just not ABLE to invest so much devoted time. Good luck to everyone!
