Crazy Dinner Date [WINNER: sooupy]

Postby PaulusH on Wed Jun 11, 2008 4:30 pm

News on running
sooupy is the overall winner =D> =D> =D>

Second post on page1 and first post on page2 contain now a different status overview.

Headlines
Premiums as well as non-premiums are welcome here.
At entering you have to choose what your major reason is to join: eat or date?
In case you come for the date (default), you need to have one slot open at the start and two weeks later another slot.
In case you come to eat, you need to have two slots open at the start and two weeks later a third slot.
Except for the needed slots (and number of games you can play in parallel), there are no differences between the people that join to eat or that join to date.

Planning
Send first PM’s to start games on 30 June. So from that moment onwards you need to have your slots open.
In case I have to postpone that date, I will enounce it at this location, latest on the 25 June.
Start date is now fixed. I like to get two more reserves, but that will not influence the starting date.

The crazy dinner date
In fact it is crazy for several reasons. It is not simply a date of two persons, but a date of 25 persons. However directly dating with 25 persons is not possible in this restaurant. Each table has 5 chairs. The next step to make it a bit crazier is that everybody will switch between tables for each dish. Furthermore in this restaurant we don’t always wait until you finished your earlier dish. In fact the next dish will directly be served as soon as all 5 persons are available for it. So after a while you have to walk all the time from one table -with an earlier dish- to another table -with the next dish-.

With everybody walking through the restaurant from one table to the other, we are rather sure that you will meet all the others. You are also free to contribute in the chats at tables with none of your dishes. (Game-numbers of running games can be found at post 2 with the current status.) To make it 100% sure you meet all others there are in total 6 dishes. So served at 6 tables. At each table with 5 persons you will meet 4 new persons and after the complete dinner you have met [6 times 4 is] all 24 other persons. (This is done by using a windmill setup.)

Since this is not crazy enough for us we also serve none-standard food, see the menu. In fact it is a kind of ‘menu-of-the-day’ concept on which no personal changes are possible. At this dinner date you are also not allowed to choose your dishes, you will have to get all of them served. (You will get approx. 48 hours to join a game you are invited for by a PM). Furthermore this restaurant is that crazy that we even will give the recipes.

Our chef de cuisine is also a bit crazy and he will not start before all 25 places inside are filled and there are at least 5 people in the waiting line outside the restaurant.

I hope you all will enjoy the complete dish. In case there are parts you really don’t like (read the menu!), you better look for another restaurant. In case you prevent to get a (bad) dish to be served, you are kicked out of the restaurant and one of the people waiting will be invited. To compensate for the waiting he (or she) will get an extra attention of our restaurant, see score.

In case you really get sick after some of the dishes and don’t want to continue with the rest of the menu, please let me know before we try to serve the next dish. Don't worry about getting sick, as long as you let me know it in time. I am used to clean up the mess. And since we know that it is in fact a bad restaurant, we don't blame you.

Menu
1 As a starter we have a quick snack: cheese from the Netherlands.
2 Simple normal creamy queens soup with ingredients from all over Europe
3 As main course we have "Vlaamse Stoofkarbonade" (Flemisch braising chop) with “Vlaamse frieten” (chips) today, this will take some time as it should be since it is the main course. Vlaanderen (Flanders) is part of the Benelux.
4 Although you might like Heineken better, you get normal German beer (bitte ein bit).
5 As desert too much increased -but for the rest normal- Italian Ice with whipped cream
6 Coffee and some cigars to smoke, all from the Caribien. Please take all the time you need to enjoy

The recipes of the Menu
Everybody joining this diner should play 6 games each with 5 persons
1 Netherlands; "quick": sunny & freestyle & escalating & terminator & unlimited.
2 Europe; “creamy”: fog; “normal”: seq. & flat & standard & unlimited
3 Benelux; “take some time”: sunny & seq. & no cards & terminator & chained.
4 Germany; "normal": sunny & seq. & flat & standard & unlimited
5 Italy; "too much increased”: escalating, “rest normal”: sunny & seq. & standard & unlimited
6 Caribien; “smoke”: fog; “take all the time”: seq. & no card & standard & adjacent

Score
We use the 5x5 windmill setup to get you all mixed up over the 6 games. A windmill is a simple structured tool of equipment. So a windmill gives a structured setup (nothing random in the setup) in which each of you will meet all others in one of the games. It is a bit comparable with a competition since everybody will meet each other once, only not 1v1.
As score we use the windmill score. The used maps & settings at this setup are judged as standard games. For standard games with 5 people the major scoring is as follows:
Winner gets 21 tulips
last out gets 17 tulips
3rd place gets 13 tulips
4th place gets 9 tulips
first eliminated gets 7 tulips.
In case there is at the end a tie at the end of the competition in number of tulips collected, the results of game(s) in which those persons where in together will show there relative position. More details about this are planned to explain in the third post (not yet made).

Any needed reserve will get the same number of tulips as the person at position 7 at that moment. Furthermore he -or she- will get one extra bonus tulip.

Predictions
Just an attempt to predict at what moment I have to start the first and the last game. Furthermore a try to predict the end date (=finish date of last game). Although I hope these predictions might give an indication, they really are only predictions.
• Expected first PM’s to send on 30 June for starting the first games for everybody.
• Expected last PM’s for starting the last game on 10 August.
• Expected the very last game to be finished at 30 August.

Easiest first prediction: As promised started 30 June. Needed since 1 freemium counted on that date, organization was ready 2 days earlier :D
Second prediction: at 10 August 3 games not started (so 3/30 is 10% offset); last PM's for last game send on 19 August (prediction made 11-Jun: 69 days before; 9/69 is 13% offset) . :(
Third prediction: at 30 August 4 games stil active ( so 4/30 is 13% offset); last game was finished on 27 September, that is 28 days too late. (prediction made 11-Jun: 108 days before; 28/108 is 26% offset). :(
This gives some oppertunities to improve ;)

Reserves have been thanked for their waiting to support if needed.
And I would thank all participants since I only needed one reserve (alraedy at the start of dish1).

The character e or d before the name is reflecting eat or date.
At each dish you will see the number of tulips you did get there.

One example about the list:
Bones2484 was with seeso at dish1 and with LordZack72 at dish3, looking at those dishes it is clear that Bones2484 was better then both; LordZack72 and seeso did meet each other at dish6, so seeso did get the lowest position :geek:

The total number of tulips for Gilligan is one more then the sum of what he did get at the dishes (he was reserve).

Re: Crazy Dinner Date (5x5 windmill game) extra blah, blah

Postby PaulusH on Wed Jun 11, 2008 4:31 pm

This post is not needed to understand the crazy dinner date tournament.

As promised something more about the windmill scoring.

In fact there are two groups of maps each having there own scoring. The reason for that is that in WWII people start eating tulips because of the hunger.

The complete windmill system scoring is up to 8 persons. Simply leave out lowest in case you play with less.
Score: get 21, get 17, get 13, get 9, get 7, get 5, get 3 or get 1 tulip
WWII: eat 0, eat 4, eat 8, eat 12, eat 14, eat 16, eat 18 or eat 20 tulips.
It is never possible to have negative tulips.
Reserve player: get one tulip extra on top of starting quantity of current position 7.

Mixing of standard, terminator, all team-setting and most assassins is possible. Assassin with 7 players is not perfect and the score need to be doubled in case assassin with 6 players is part of the tournament setup.

What a great idea and magnificent layout!

I'm surely in and I'm here to eat

I'm interested in the windmill... thingy. Can you give some schematics or explain it? If it's not too much work, of course.

The plan is to use the third post to explain the windmill system a bit more. In this case I used a 5x5 windmill, but in the same way you could have other amounts as long as the number of people on a table is the same as the number of tables. The scoring does not depend on the number of people on a table; also not on the game-settings, but it depends on the mapof the game.
However for the time being I concentrate on running issues (I know the setup is simple and good).

On the other hand is a date on CC also a new thing to me, so I choose the date.

grant.gordon,
I did put you in the list

Out of the post before, which I will reuse for status updates:
Made "Date" the default setting; for options to win there is no difference and this requires less open slots (max 2).
Send PM's to people who entered and didn't choose between date or eat.
