Add spell check

Post by cisco2001 »

This site has two important aspects to it. The gaming portion and the writing portion. e.g. chat, forums, PM's, etc.

I think that a spell check mechanism would be a very valuable tool for PM's and the forum. I can't tell you how many times I read a post and have to make an effort to interpret what is written. I know that there is, currently, a tool that hi-lights a misspelled word in red. Regardless, I think that a spell check would be a very valuable and utilized tool both for the writer and the reader.

Thanks

Firefox has a built-in spelling checker.
I don't pay attention to it, but its there, and automatically marks the words that are spelled wrong when you type.

It's possible that you did not see that in my first post. I did note that. However, it does not give you an option to help correct the spelling.

Cisco

The words underlined in red and hence identified as spelled incorrectly - right click on them and Firefox will offer you its suggested corrections.

It certainly does this for me; though I only just discovered it when considering your request. You may need to install a language dictionary to get the feature. See https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3 for dictionary options.

Certainly this is isn't anything that will be implemented within the code for CC any time soon.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try right clicking for the correct spelling. It may be a good idea to make a sticky or something to let players know that this tool is available.

Cisco, it is the same way that Word used to be (before the auto-correction software).
