It is, in fact, twice a lie.

First, the thread title is simply a fact, pointing out that, indeed, the very first comment is "a bold faced lie", when in actuality, the very first comment is "this is a lie."

Second, "This" is a pronoun which refers to something mentioned earlier. Since nothing was earlier referenced that can qualify the subject of the pronoun, you can assume that the statement is inferring that "Nothing is a lie" which is absurd, for there are truly lies in the world.

Ahh, yes. I was attempting to disregard that one as your simple minded attempt at being a dick. I actually enjoyed thinking about the puzzle and was not making any attempt at being "profound" about my analysis of the nature of the statement. It is interesting though that you could derive profoundness out of the statement. I really thought of it more as a word puzzle.

The way I read it is that the very first comment in the thread is "a bold faced lie" and yet what I see written is "this is a lie"
so, the lie is in the title of the thread as well as in the comment. the title says that the comment should read "a bold faced lie" which should be taken to mean literally, as in that the comment should have read:

a bold faced lie

or, possibly:

lie

which would have been a bold faced lie.
