A week or so ago I read about a ray gun that erases memory. Amazing... next time you see someone who can't remember squat... just think, maybe they knew too much? Maybe the government fried their brain and faked the car accident?
The Army Times is amazing BTW.
It's like something out of "The Terminator." Self-aware virtual humans, regenerating body parts on "nano-scaffolding," mind controlled weapons - all the stuff of movie robots, comic heroes and otherworldly tomes.
You probably know this already, but when Gener Rodenberry was creating Star Trek, he consulted with scientists on what was likely to be happening in the relatively near future. It is one reason the shows seemed "plausible"... In many ways, they were (aliens, of course, might be a differant story -- lol)
Read an article in Marine Corps times a few weeks ago that the DoD is working on a starship troopers-esque insertion vehicle. Basically, a squad of Marines loads into a rocket, gets launched into space, goes into orbit, and smashes down wherever there's action in a matter of minutes. Talk about rapid response.
"The Nation that makes a great distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools."
FUnny thing was I used to read the Weekly world news for a good laugh. I showed my dad the picture of a stealth war boat. It looked similar to the stealh bomber but in the water. My dad smirked and asked me if he could have that. He put it in his briefcase and I never saw it again.
He has worked in testing and development for the army for years. I don't know if he took it to F with me, or if they really had pics of something they shouldn't.
So the moral is: yes, they probably are/have or will develop all those things that simply sound impossible.
nothing wrong with a little bit of man on dog love.

That is a real boat! It's like a giant grey enclosed pontoon with all flat surfaces.
Actually, that boat is already obsolete for it's original purpose of inserting special forces.
Now-a-days they use large subs like SEA WOLF to launch smaller "insertion subs."

Perhaps none of the above .. maybe that was the inspiration for the future ...
No, seriously, that stuff was public a long time ago. But, even once public, it takes a while for the military to admit stuff publicly. It's sort of a "game" they play (albiet a deadly serious one).

Ah, yes, I remember reading something like that in Popular Science or something. Orbital insertion set to happen in a few years. Really cool stuff.
Kinda gives a whole new meaning to amphibious invasion.
The inflation rate in Zimbabwe just hit 4 million percent. Some people say it is only 165,000, but they are just being stupid. -Scott Adams, artist and writer of Dilbert

Unsure if it gives a new meaning to the word...I think that would still mean water or land...But it could be a new meaning to "Surprise assault". or "airborne"

There army wants it by 2018 was it? So that prolly means that they have it now actually. Some of the stuff the Army Times reports on is amazing. As if mind-erasing ray guns aren't cool(and F-ing scary) enough, search their site for "brain waves reading cameras." They are working on cameras that can LITERALLY read your thoughs. I read that a while back but decided not to share.
Can you imagine what you could do with a machine like that? I more scared of that than invisability cloaks actually. Glad our sides got this stuff.

They might, and Force Recon is probably trained and able to use it if they do, but I don't think there's been a whole lot of cause to yet as the reason for using orbital insertion is to get into a landlocked country (like Afghanistan) without having to wait on airspace use treaties. They simply have to go up and over.

Ok, I'm not so sure that I'm glad any side has got this stuff....
Silent Sounds, Inc. states that it is interested only in positive emotions, but the military is not so limited. That this is a US Department of Defense project is obvious.
Edward Tilton, President of Silent Sounds, Inc., says this about S-quad in a letter dated December 13, 1996:
"All schematics, however, have been classified by the US Government and we are not allowed to reveal the exact details... ... we make tapes and CDs for the German Government, even the former Soviet Union countries! All with the permission of the US State Department, of course... The system was used throughout Operation Desert Storm (Iraq) quite successfully."

Consult the skeptic's dictionary then get back to me. Please.
