LFAW [Settled]

Postby LFAW on Tue Nov 11, 2008 7:57 am

Accused:

LFAW

The accused are suspected of:
Other: Unintentionally cheating but found a severe loophole in the speed gaming freestyle system.

Game number(s):
Game 3639819

Comments: I started a 1v1 Doodle FS Game about 20 minutes ago, after 2 minutes no-one joined so I went into the forum and as such forgetting about the game. After about 18 minutes I came back to the my games page to find I had 10 seconds left in the game after I had missed 2 turns. I panicked and quickly deployed 3 armies on an already existing 3 and put the 6 armies from the turns I missed on top of it.
I then ran out of time.
I immediately started my turn taking his bonus and putting myself in a position to win the game.

IMHO I should not have had the opportunity to win the game and I believe this to be a loophole in the system.

It should be changed as I believe many people can use this tactic which IMO is cheating to great effect.

Yours,
LFAW

Lol, I said it here because I do think its cheating.

Yes I did it unintenionally but the fact still remains others could use it as a tactic and I think it should be ruled upon as cheating.

I think this falls under the "Doodle Earth is always a crapshoot" category. I don't think it's a realistic way to get points. Considering you had to miss two turns to get this army of 12, your opponent had three turns (and 9 or more armies) to take as many of your territories as he could. You only start with 6, and he should be able to take 4-5 of those with his three turns, about 70% of the time. (I know you freestyle players like to drop everything on one territory and try to smash places and attack neutrals, but you ought to try distributing troops and focusing). Now if you think you can turn around every single game where you aren't stuck behind a neutral by your third turn, and at least 28% of the ones where you are, then you could win half the games. Really I just think you got lucky this time: everyone agrees missing turns to get extra armies is fruitless, and most people already know that if you run out of time then you can start the next round (works in 24 hour games too, you just need to make sure you start your turn within an hour of the end). In the long run, you won't win very often doing this.

If you really feel bad about stealing points, play the guy again on a map where you'd need skill to win, and see if he can take his points back.

It seems that you are referring to the current loophole around the "no double turns" rule. Since you ran out of time and you didn't press the button to end your turn, the game engine allows you to start your next turn immediately after the round ends, you do not need to wait for the other person to start (or for half the round to pass). This happens with all freestyle games, not just speed games. At the current time, this is not against any CC rules although some people (like you) think that it should be. A change has been suggested in the Suggs & Bugs forum, but until that time you have actually done nothing wrong. Moved to closed reports.

I know its not against the rules but it should go along the lines of abuse of the gaming system. Its unfair and I admit that.
Missing 2 turns should not be a viable tactic for any game.

Didn't say it was against the rules. Just said that you missunderstood what LFAW said.
