Rock - Paper - Scissors Strategies

Post by el-presidente »

Since C.C. is a strategy game, I assume some of the people here have brilliant strategic minds. What better to apply this brilliance to than Rock Paper Scissors :D I have an upcomming R-P-S compitition at my school and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on my stratigy.
General I tend to just throw predominently rock which works O.K.
Any advice?

Simple.

The "usual" cycle. I mean usual by what I have seen and documented, is rock, paper scissors. Just as it goes. Now, if said tournament is a best of 3, or best of whatever, then your first throw should be random, to see where your opponent is starting in the cycle. After you've figured it out, throw the one that would beat the next in the sequence.

If you tie, say for example with rock. Then your next move should be with scissors as its unlikely they will go rock again. Oh and if someone keeps beating you pick what you think would be the worst one to pick and you may just win.

If everyone throws rock then paper would be a logical most common throw, however, if someone mostly throws rock why wouldn't the be prepared for some one throwing paper. Rock is solider because it will always tie rock and beat scisoors.

But this is why doing mostly one option ( rock) is the best strategy. No one anticipates it.

RPS is the best when there are 2 people who only throw rock. They continuously tie. WHen in a situation like that it gets intence. You need to read their emotion just right. YOu can usualy tell if they are about to change theirs at which point you have to throw scissors.

In the words of Demetri Martin : It should be rock, scissors, and dynamite with a cuttable wick.

I never understood how paper beats rock.
So it covers it and...that's it? Not very violent.

Life's not all about money (no matter what Abu dabi will tell you), you need to take time to enjoy yourself, let go and play the odd game of rock, paper, scissors. ;)
