If they were given 1 free speed game I doubt it would make a difference

lack does give away free speed games under certain circumstances, just three weeks ago freemiums were allowed to play unlimited speed games on the Halloween Hollows map.

lance, has there been a noticeable increase in sales since then?

The answer to that is the answer to this

i love the idea...though i agree that there should be a condition...like 2 speed games per month...but this idea ROCKS!!!
also,it will make the players who can affored to pay(which i cant :( ) wanna pay at CC to play unlimited speed games!
so its a win-win situation...also the premiums wont be offended coz they get a lot more than just 2 games per month.

Whilst I understand the idea to charge for the premium services I could see a use in allowing all new members to play 1 or 2 speed games. Both to cut down on the "?" deadbeating that comes from not getting to make a move directly and as a marketing scheme. Don't see much need to hand them out on a monthly/yearly basis though.

If you give a certain number of speed games to people when they first sign on how many multis would you get. I would be tempted to go through the hassel of creating a new account to play the free games. I think 1 speed game a month would be a good thing though. Im half tempted to get premium for the speed games (dont need the extra spaces as this site wastes enough of my time as it is) but dont know how well it would work, ive heard people complaining that some speed game settings never end up filling and thus never get played, which worries me. What if i pay the $25 to play speed games, but nobody will join my games?

You should probably create speed-games on peak-hours where lots of people are on.

As for the suggestion. I think it's a great idea. A lot of newbies do deadbeat after some time because it takes a long time to play. I am not sure I would've stuck around if it wasn't for the first few games I played with my friends from other forums. After that I decided to read the forums because I didn't have much to do.

And yeah, giving a certain number of speed-games at first sign up would probably lead to many multis. I mean, they won't bust you untill you've joined the games already and so you're free to end those games. Though I must say that most people don't create multis simply because they don't like being unfair or cheating.

Maybe one or 2 speed-games at sign-up, or a 1 or 2 speed-game a month limit would be a good thing as you said. People aren't likely to go through the hassle of creating another account for 2 speedgames. An account needs a new e-mail and you have to wait while they check and honestly why bother if you enjoy playing speed-games that much? Might as well pay up the money and get more speed-games.

yup...overall i think 1/2 speed games per month for a freemium is a good idea.
note..its just a speed game...the freemium doesnt get all premium benifits...and this will be a good prodder for those who r uncertain wether they should pay or not...and also less '?' deadbeats..so the premiums still have better benifits over freemiums, the CC site gets more ppl willing to pay for premium and a lot lesser deadbeats, and the freemiums...welll lets just say that if it was possible they would grin their hearts out at this

thus, its a win-win for all and everyone will benifit from this idea...also there are many more other advantages both small and big, forseen and unforseen..
so go for it guys!!

yeah, mostly "win" to freemiums like yourself, and less "win" to paying members like myself... if you want free speed games, wait for a special occasion or pony up the dough... simple enough. i think it is a horrible idea. lack gives away far more to freemiums than any other site like this on the INTERNETS. if you want speed games too, get a board game, a timer, and a friend to come over to your house...-6cd

CC is great, because it is free for those who choose to play only 4 games at a time. I got the money, but don't want to spend it on a gaming site. You can call that cheap or whatever you like, but that won't change my mind. This is quite a stubborn guy talking ^^

But...

If you're able to buy a computer and an internet connection, I can hardly believe it's impossible to pay $25 a year. No reason to complain, I'd say.
I've played other games which were free with unlimited gameplay, but they took too much time from my other addictions (real-life-addictions are way more fun), so I quit them. It's like lack wanted to protect my other unhealthy habits, by only giving me four games. Thank you for that.

- A user who fully accepted and embraced the Freemium-rules.

PS. I've played Speed games when given the chance to, but it took too much time. I doubt I'd even use my free speed game if it was given to me monthly.

Gift to freemiums

Postby Ramned on Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:05 pm

O:) O:) O:) O:) O:) O:)
In addition to the 4 game casual limit, I believe it would be awfully nice to let freemiums join 1 speed game each day. How's that sound? O:) O:) O:) O:) O:)

I saw that on another site so thought to mention it aqui

We usually have quite a few frequent gifts to freemiums...and they have quite a lot of access as is (we have no Premium exclusive maps). I think freemiums are pretty well off, and don't need much more else. :)

Well, 1 speed game per day means they can actually start and end one game on a given day, plus, if a freemium joined 4 8 player sequential games it's gonna take A WHILE for them to join anything else, which for someone who just made it to the site may be annoying. Having that 1 speed game per day will allow them to get more interested, and I'm sure it'll get more people to stay and eventually buy premium.

That's true, but for those free people who are stuck in never ending, stagnant games (there are quite a few!) I'd say they'd like to play a bit more interesting games.

Plus, wouldn't letting free people having contact with speed games, getting that 'addicting' taste - wouldn't that show them an incentive to sign up? You should try it!

Good idea! It would encourage new people to actually turn up each day and take the rest of their turns while they are at it.

PERHAPS... Only new recruits should get this ability. That would encourge new people to return but wouldn't be giving too much to freemium players (like andy said.)

i think one a week would be better, one a day is too much and premium might lose its value

definitely a cool idea though!

1 a week sounds more reasonable. It will help premiums to because there will be more speed games with more settings to join.

ya and games will fill quicker

dubs (waiting for 2 players on classic) can take up to like an hour to fill, would probably be a lot quicker if freemiums could join

only problem i see here are the multis but if freemiums had to wait a week before their first game then i think it would be ok, most multis (especially from known multi-makers) get caught within that time

a freemium i think it should be that the time between ending a game before starting a new one should be 10 days.

why? because it is enough to let us taste premium-ness to want it more but i dont think it give enough to make getting premium worthless

freemiums get plenty already, this would just give freemiums more reasons to break the rules and create multis to play more speed games....
