Hire paid Sheriff to oversee Mods.

Postby porkenbeans on Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:03 pm

Concise description:
  • Hire someone to be in charge of all Mods. Even if you have to raise the membership fee a dollar or two, to pay for it.

Specifics:
  • Applicant should be from outside of the CC community, and will NOT be a playing member.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • This will allow for an impartial, and professional arbitrator, at the helm.

Specifics:
  • Sheriff will have the authority to hire and fire his volunteer staff of Mods.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • All Mods will be reined in, so as to act in a clear, and uniformed policy.

the major problem with that, is expecting someone that doesnt play the game to understand ALL of the ins and outs of it....

you would rather have somebody that has no idea what we are doing here to make these kinds of decisions that i can only assume you would be refering to? wouldnt they be a lil bit complicated.....

I have noticed an increasing uproar recently as to the unprofessional actions by a few Mods. I myself have fallen victim to this. While in the coarse of fighting for a remedy to the Newbie farming problem, I had 2 threads locked. I was kindly pmd' and told not to refer to the un-cool ones, as Newbie rapers. FYI, the king herp himself, has the words "come get raped" on his sig.

Lacks last proclamation that condemned the actions of the Noob Farmers Guild, was very well received. And was a long time in coming.

I must admit that I am very confused though. Immediately following his proclamation, the Mods seem to be on a completely different course.
They are locking threads left and right. Anything that has mention of the N.F. problem.

Lack said it himself, that this activity is corrupting the leaderboard. But when are we going to see the remedy to the corrupted leaderboard ? Just saying that it is un-cool, is Not fixing the leaderboard.

Those that have participated in this un-cool activity, should be busted down in rank in accordance with their transgressions. Those that have spent a considerable amount of time fighting for this cause, should NOT be silenced. On the contrary, they should be cheered by not only the members. but the CC staff as well.

So you are putting down the farmers and you think it is okay to use that language because the people you are putting down use it. :?

Lack said it is illegal, and now even KLOBBER is playing other game types. So, why do you keep pushing it?

Same as above. Lack said it is illegal and will ban people that do it. So drop the subject already.

Point out a member of the site who still continuously plays mostly new recruits. Go report him in the cheating and abuse. Has anyone done this to a person that plays mainly new recruits yet? No, so why should you be able to see results?

See above. Go fix it yourself and not wait for the admins to go through everyone on the scoreboard.

I do not know what Twill does. And I have nothing against him. All I am trying to say is, This sites customer service is very unprofessional. Get someone that is trained in this field to take the helm of customer service.

  did you read ANY of my post?

You want it fixed, and what do you do? Complain. Flame farmers (or just insult them without flaming). And then you complain even more about not having everything fixed when the mods are receiving no complaints in the proper location (the cheating forum).

Very much contributing to the situation. Go report some players who play mostly new recruits, after that complain if it is not handled. You can't complain that the mods are not busting anyone if no one is accusing anyone of the abuse they said they would bust.

I think I've got it figured out, porkenbeans seems to be determined to bring about a massive set of point resets. Apparently he believes that the situation has not been "handled" until such a thing has happened. That is the only explanation for his repeated use of "until the leaderboard is fixed" in his argument.

Although, you are correct, when someone reports it, action will be taken as needed. You can't enforce the new rules retroactively, that would be silly. So, porkenbeans the scoreboard will be fixed if the Farmers continue to break the rules, otherwise it will likely fix itself if they can't win in other fashions.

Yes, you are hearing me loud and CLEAR, O-Prime. If you would just look at it from the point of view of all those that have been fighting for this cause for months. We have had to endure much hardship just to get CC to admit that there was even a problem. And now Lack has come out on our side of the argument. Stating all the same reasons that we have been voicing. Many top players on the Leaderboard are there because of "harvesting techniques". These Harvesters have found a chink and exploited the system. Retroactive re-alignment IS required, if the system is to be made fair. If they are allowed to keep their ill gotten points, The system will not be fully fixed. I am not the one that should be nazi-hunting. It is the Mods job. If they were not busy locking threads, and sending pms' to tell someone not to refer to the man with the words on his sig. "come get raped", as a Newbie raper, Well maybe they would have more time to allot for this task. Just start at the top and work your way down. 8-)

People do not have to contribute to the foundry or the cheating and abuse forums. But they still do. Why?

Without people's contributions, half of CC would be cheaters since the hunters can't check and gather the info on everyone. They "routinely scan" but a heck of a lot of people are busted every day. Imagine CC without all the busts we have in closed reports.

Now, take a look at the maps. Imagine if the only maps we had were the ones made by the cartographers. We would have a very small choice indeed.

So in effect, you can expect the mods to solve everything. But you can't expect them to do a good job at it unless most of the work is done by contributors.

I do not disagree with anything you said. Its just that they could use some help in the way of a professional, that knows how to deal with the public. When this site was young, I am sure that the Mod structure worked fine, but This site has grown into something much larger than just a cool place for computer geeks to hang out at. My resent dealings that I have described, proves this point.
I do not wish to slam the Mods. I am sure that they are trying their best. They just need someone that is trained at this sort of job, to run the outlaws out of town, and restore order to this wild wild west. It is NOT enough just to tell them to act nice. You must confiscate their guns, and take back the loot that they have plundered. :D
Otherwise, You are just sweeping it under the rug.

Pork, the chances of lack hiring anyone at any position is something like zero, no matter how many threads you make.
Also, over half of this thread seems to be about farming and not the actual topic of the thread. That isn't good form.

There is no such thing as impartial in this case.

Said person would need to be well-versed in the debates that have been happening. That = 2 people The mods, and the people that have been complaining.

I find it odd that the person who started this thread is trying to take it off-topic by discussing farming. That doesn't usually happen. But to answer your two questions:

It is unjust to retroactively point reset someone for a rule that just came into place January 1. That is a horrible suggestion that won't be happening (so I wouldn't bother wasting posts about it).

As for the actual topic of this thread, several people are right, the Community Manager oversees Team CC. Currently that manager is Twill (whether you like him or not).

Not allowing the mods to play the game would be a good start, on mtgo (magic the gathering online) the adepts (mods) are not allowed to play the game. This prevents much of the "biased" mod problem that porker is talking about.

About the chances, I am with you on that one, but as for being on topic, I could not be more ON topic. The first post in this thread, explains the "topic" very clearly. I want to stress again that Mod bashing, is not what this thread is about. But rather, for a discussion to see if we can come up with a solution to a growing problem, as I see it.

Lacks proclamation is clearly an attempt to fix a problem. It is the very problem that many members have been fighting for. His statement could not have been more inline with our cause.
The mods have circled the wagons, and gone into "us against them" mode. There last manifesto only accomplished to confuse the forum rules more. Annoying is very ambiguous. It may be used in an arbitrary manner. Especially in this "us against them" atmosphere.

The locking of threads for no justifiable cause, is the kind of thing that I am talking about.

King herps' sig. says "come get raped". And when I call him a "Newbie Raper", I get called out by a Mod and told that I can not say that. Then they lock my thread and some others" threads. It seems that they are siding with the N.F.s'. in complete contrast with Lacks proclamation. It is as if there solution to the problem is to simply admit that there is a problem with the leaderboard. Well it took us long enough to get them to admit that. But that is only the beginning. You cant simply stop there and claim "problem fixed".

You must now adjust the leaderboard accordingly. some at the top have inflated their scores so much that it is just not fair for the rest of the CC members that are not "Harvesters".
Personally, I do not think that they should be busted down to cook, But, 2 or 3 ranks would be an acceptable compromise. If they are that good, it would take them no time to regain their place at the top. If they are not, They will just have to settle for their true ranking.

I never bashed twill or anyone else. I went out of my way to state this 2 times before this.
THIS IS NOT A MOD BASH.
I am just saying that some of the things going on are very unprofessional. And I know that the mods are un-paid, non-professionals. I think that the mods could do a better job if they were to have an impartial leader that is NOT a player.

Them being a player has nothing to do with their decisions. What you're asking is, that people that made choices before the rules, now be punished that the rules are in places. So if a new rule comes out that states players/users cannot complain or ask for new mods in 2 months, should you be banned for this thread? No, because the rule does not exist at this time.

But hey, if we follow you, lets do it fully, not just half assed. Anyone who has ever played a cook should be banned for farming!
