This makes no sense to me. If the family keeps the surname, why keep the same forename? There are so many names out there to choose from and you carry on with the same name?

Not true, as they are not the same. The distinction is that junior is named after the father
and the II (the 2nd) is named after the grandfather.
True. While your definition may be historically accurate, in today's world those rules are no longer applied with any consistency. Every every "2nd" I have ever known was named after his father.
Our family had friends in Cleveland, Ohio who had four sons who all had the first name Ray,
just like their father... Ray Jr. and Ray III and Ray IV and Ray V.
which made it simple to call the family to dinner.
Like George Foreman?

Inertia.

Would cost too much money to change everything over. Also, I ave heard it allows some companies to be more proprietary (less likely for others to copy them.. somewhat).

Still, it is happening anyway in most science and even in many other places that deal with the rest of the world.

Its a tradition thing I guess. My dad was just following my grandpa and now its kind of a family legacy.

As NASA found out to their cost when the mongoloids failed to convert metric units given to them by European designers and ended up losing $200 million worth of equipment into deep space because of a calculation error that'd make a schoolboy blush.

Just how bad is money is being lost on American properties?

I'm sick of hearing about sub prime mortgages. I never get to read about how much money the average house has lost in value over the last 3-4 years

All of you that are pissing on American Beers need to drink a Sam Adams. Mass produced with the best traditional lager flavor of any beer on the market from any country in the world. Sam Light is phenomenal as well. Probably the best light beer ever made.

In England imperial measures are alive and well. All road signs are in miles, we buy 8oz steaks or 1/4 pounder beef burgers and enjoy a nice pint of Budweiser(not that German crap). And English drug dealers will seel you an ounce of weed not 28 grammes of weed.

Because it sucks. If you look at the two systems, an inch is more or less comparable to a centimeter, (1 inch = 2.54 centimeters,) and 1 yard more or less comparable to a meter, a meter being just a bit bigger. However, there is nothing in the metric system that compares to the foot, (1 foot = 12 inches, 12 inches = 30.48 centimeters,) and that sub devision is really nice.

Besides, why should america jump off a bridge just cause all her friends are doing it.

I get real confused when considering weights. I grew up with pounds and ounces, but had gotten used to metric weights for food etc. Then I moved to the US, and had to re-adjust. At people-scale weights, I still think in Stones and pounds, but of course the US don't have stones, so every time I hear a weright I have to perform a quick mental conversion.

Similarly, when it's hot I think in degrees fahrenheit, but when its cold I think in Centigrade... so a warm day will be in the 70's, a cold one hovering around nought.

In short, because the conversion would cost too much money. (maybe we could get a measurement bailout and get er done!)

I have a house and a mortgage. My home has not appreciably depreciated in value. The subprime mortgage crisis is a lot more about the mortgage companies than the typical American homeowner.

Or try Yuengling (America's oldest brewery), which doesn't taste like you're eating hops (like when you drink a Sam Adams).

Yuengling.......fine brewery....

But to your claim that Sam Adam's beers are too hoppy....
Might I refer you to Sam Adam's Scotch Ale:

very little hops

or their Hefeweizen:

or their Cranberry Lambic:

or their Cherry Wheat:

What you say! Hops are the GOOD part of the beer! I can't stand malty, hopless beers.

And if you think Sam Adams is hoppy (and it really isn't)...a good IPA will curl your toes. ;)

Sam's is nice though. But I don't like the light version.
