Why is my bonus not broken?

Post by pleflar »

I hope this isn't out of place in this forum, I thought it might be better here rather than is strategy since it's a particular situation rather than a general strategy question.

In this game Game 4310031 I initially took Maghreb but in turn 7 I completed a move to take Europe and withdrew all but defensive forces from Africa. However, for the last three turns no one has broken my Maghreb bonus despite the fact that my only force there wouldn't be able to immediately retaliate and I'm only getting further ahead thanks to the bonus. I was expecting the bonus to be broken immediately and my strategy has generally moved in other directions. My question is, why has no one broken this bonus which I am not trying to defend? Am I missing something?

Thanks

Who knows? You should start on pink though, through Mexico.

Some may not want to attack you in fear of you retaliating by suicide-ing into them.

I've been in a few games where the eventual winner essentially strolls across the map unopposed
and I have no idea why the #2 and #3 strengthed players never bother to intervene. But sometimes it happens. Maybe those players have so many simultaneous games going that they just aren't focused on current events. Who knows, there's never an explaination. Clueless on their ratings comes to mind.

Yup MEXICO looks like a good spot for a yellow vacation and it's not about taking 2 armies off of pink's deployment but 40 guys down there is so much better than the pair of 24s defending the southern USA.

Many miss that when they first get here...

If you play a game like this at home, you typically play quick, but in this game, they can go on for a year at times. The person who wins isnt usually the person who attacked the most, its the person who got attacked the least. So, they would rather you keep a little bonus, than have you nail them with a massive force.

Some will sit back in a game, and never do anything, hoping everyone else just kills each other...

IN this game it is the best to just stack. Even put 2's on those bordes. I mean without the card set u get a 35 man. Kill pink in mexico and u get like 40 or something. STack a few turns and you can easily win this. But just do defensively good first at seq 2.1's and then start atacking, you got the bonusses now try to keep them and not force to many people on u. Only thing i should do now is kill the men in mexico for the full continent and 2's at maghreb his borders.

THe rest is just stupid not taking or breaking that 5 bonus.

Topic moved. I think this has sufficiently advanced to strategy talk in this topic. :)

Right, at this point I need to make certain that I won't be open to concerted assaults so I am planning on fortifying for at least two turns.

thanks, everyone, for your input.

I see the situation has changed... mebbe doobiegood has been reading this thread? heh. Four of the five are strong with lots of spoils in hand. So try to be patient, as it's still early (R 13) and unless someone goes wild turning the map on it's head this game should last awhile. Consider behind your front lines, so you don't look too ominous and can counter-attack when necessary. It also makes it harder to roll right accross your territories when they are not all single defenders.

Green wants you to maintain a truce and back out of Turkey? That's not so bad, considering Pink is so strong and forting Poland, Greece and Moskva while also stiffening up your Nordic trio so that you are not easily broken again just might be a good thing. If Green moves into the MidEast, that's one more barrier between your borders and Blue/Pink.

I definitely got ahead of myself. Time to settle down and learn.
