I'm a fan of paranoid fear-mongering too.

Yeah...especially since Bush already handed Cheney the constitution to use how he wished.

Since this century has pretty much been nothing but paranoid fear mongering
I'm just about almost, finally, nearly getting used to it.

I thought Bush and Cheney used "US Constitution brand toilet paper"

And some even more creative uses.

I think its funny how Obama supporters think that Obama is going to do anything to restore the constitution... All I see is how he is furthering its demise.

You know, there's such thing as middle-ground. It's called "being a reasonable person". I love how you extremists like to say that anyone who isn't a paranoid fear-monger, is "asleep" and would gladly roll over so the commies can take our freedoms.

Why does no one ever take to the streets, chanting "BE REASONABLE!"?

Reasonableness?
When do we want it?
Well, you know, take your time, I know you're very busy, I mean we think it's important but there's other stuff to sort out too. Maybe next Thursday?

I'm not an extremist. I am a realist. Government grows by the hour, ever expanding, ever interfering despite the Constitution's direction to prevent this. Even so, so many of you sleepy sheeple joyfully take the government at its word. You have been educated to do this, and you don't even realize it. If being reasonable means consenting to government involvement in everyday life, or tyranny, as I like to call it, then I will choose to be unreasonable with that, because there is no reason for it.

Not at all. Power, consolidated into the hands of the few, is not a matter of if tyranny will manifest, but when. Just ask Hitler.

I liken any "all powerful" governments to Hitler. Its oppressive. Its aggressive. I thought all the world thought that the US was overtly dominating. Where have you been the last 10 years exactly? :-s

Australia, New Zealand, The USA, Canada, England, Iraq and Turkey are where I've been for more than a few weeks in the last 10 years. Opinions are pretty divided (love in N Iraq, pretty antagonised in Turkey for example) but never did I hear an analogy between your government and Hitler. I lived in the states for 6 months and the government never bothered me once.

I disagree with many things your government does but that doesn't make them comparable to the Nazi regime. You do not live in a dictatorship. You are in fact saying bad things about your government and they are allowing you to do it, lucky you!

But the leadership right now is trying to change that. Haven't you heard of their 'fairness' plans? Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWHgUE9AD4s

We are, in fact, in the transition from a free state to a police state. We have already seen documents from our DHS that identify those that dissent against the current administration as potential terrorists. We are seeing more and more, people that write or speak against the current administration are set in a position of scrutiny. Bush created the scenario where American citizens could be spied on without warrant. Obama will not over turn this. We are seeing more and more legislation being passed under pressure in the cover of night without the process of review and debate on it. We are hearing "Pass or else - Pass or else!!!"

True, we aren't there yet, but we are on the path. The time to resist is now, not when the next Hitler is setting battle plans and kangaroo court trials. This is why I tell you that the people are asleep... you are either too lazy or delusional to see. You don't want to believe that it can happen... but it can, and sadly, it will. The temptation for the elite is too great. We, the people, have to plant our feet, take up arms, and tell THEM the tyrants that we will not allow it. We, the people are individual and sovereign, and we do not subject to government, government is subject to us!

It's been growing since the sixties. I blame the LSD.

Truth is, our government, and all governments for that matter, operate, and have always operated in a certain shadow level, a shadow level that usually follows money and/or power. The difference between then and now is that now we have technology for the rapid dissemination of knowledge, true or otherwise, giving small groups of people, or even individuals powerful tools in exposing some parts of the shadow workings, which do nothing but cause fear and dissent.

The fact that our government has done nothing (or apparently nothing) to outright squelch the murmurings of the people goes to show what kind of government we live in. Could that change? Sure. It has before and probably will again, but the fact that it's always returned to the normal conditions (i.e. sedition becoming illegal during the world wars then becoming legal again) says a lot about how our government works: it is of the people, by the people, and for the people. Our Constitution may be shat upon again and again and again, but those three facts will always remain the same. The people simply will not stand for certain things, and once a democratic republic has been set up, nothing short of an outside invader and/or a bloody coup against the true essence of the government, the people, will they be overpowered.
The inflation rate in Zimbabwe just hit 4 million percent. Some people say it is only 165,000, but they are just being stupid. -Scott Adams, artist and writer of Dilbert

You are correct... It will not be overthrown. But that should not suggest that it hasn't been infiltrated and that the infiltrators have not been working very hard to secretly destroy the republic from within. Our founding fathers knew that this would be how the republic would end. and so, here we are... looking at tyranny in the face and, having been dumbed down to the point that we refuse to believe that it is even a remote possibility, embrace it in the name of equality and security for all. The point to remember is that equality and security for all cannot exist with liberty and justice for all.

I think that I understand you to be a Marine? If so, then you need to realize that you are the tool of tyrants and you will one day be called upon to quell insurgents in this country. When you are faced with gunning down your friends, family and neighbors, you will be challenged with a moral dilemma... you will have to decide for yourself, are you one of them, or are you one of us. Remember your oath to protect the Constitution... remember the people that it serves, then make your decision. Best of luck to you.

Have you ever read the communist manifesto? You pretty much just described it... Just make it so that the smart people will lead the revolution and that it will end in the abolishment of private property and you'd be a commie. Congrats.
