Nice bump. All relevant, and shit.

I got it, but it wasn't immediate. Well, I got it, as long as the gnomes know how many gnomes are behind them.

Oh God, who bumped this.... I couldn't do it back then and surely won't be able to right now considering I can barely see my monitor.

I got it. You should say that the gnomes know the position of every other gnome. ;)

No, Sully said it's not a loophole like that.

I mean, if the gnomes don't know how many are behind them, then the solution doesn't work.

Also, don't spoil it, it's not that hard. You just need to think about what the gnomes know, and what they can gather from other gnomes' actions. :)

That information is not necessary to solve it.

Yeah it is. One of the gnomes has to know if there is someone behind him for the puzzle to work. :?

Oh yeah.

I thought you were looking for some loophole.

And I think you just spoiled it BTW (not that it was that hard)

Are all of the gnomes supposed to be able to name their hat by the end of it, or only one or two?

Two gnomes can get it, one gets it first, and when (and if) he says the answer out loud one other will also know. The remaining two are left to stand there for ever and ever.

on second thought you're correct, assuming the second gnome hears and knows the position of the first to suss it out, which i believed was established as possible

I must be doing it wrong, then, because the way I've got it figured, once the first two speak up, the other two will know. Somehow I've got it where the first two who know have the same color hat. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

EDIT: I've pretty much decided that after the second gnome speaks up, everyone knows the color of their own hat.

Well, thinking about it I don't see how the other two could ever guess right.
