thanks for posting this Robinette.

good stuff.

i printed it out, and read it off of paper, cause the computer screen can get hard on the eyes when reading something any more dense than a line or two at a time.

again, thanks, keep it coming. or provide a link to your blog, if you have one.

Perhaps we could all have a crack at writing short stories - poems would be acceptable - and then have a public vote on the best. We could have leagues and high score charts and a 'Hall Of Fame' and perhaps change the name of the site to something like : http://www.shortstoriesthatwecanallvoteon.net

Yeah that would be just fab.

don't leave us hanging like that... what happens next?

hey wait a minute, you can't do that --- the point of my story is a single reinforcement that never sees action... the war must end without him having a chance to make a difference... don't you see, he's an errantly placed army, you can't change this story like that!!!! you'll end up turning it into a hollywood script... boo!!

Well, it's out of my hands now... we'll just have to wait and see how hollywoodish it gets from here...

If it was down to Hollywood, the next port would of been Alexandria, and the sailor would of discovered a long lost love. She would of been captured by the Nazis and our hero would have to thwart a devilish plot by a Himmler looking character seeking The Sword of Damocles's that would give Hitler eternal life.
Then he would steal a flying pyramid (buried under the sand thousands of years ago by aliens who started human civilization) fly to Tokyo, beat up Emperor Hirohito, rescue his love from the clutches of an evil fat, sweaty Japanese POW officer, fly back to his hometown in Wichita and release the flying pyramids' green forcefield which protects all of North America from a German experimental flying wing, that is heading to New York to drop the Germans first Nuclear bomb on New York.

Here is the 1st review just in from the sneek peek at the Chinese Grumman Theatre, where all the who's who of celebrities have joined to offer harmonious support for this ground breaking film...
"This film is a perfect example of the Hollywood movie machine at it's finest, and with the studios promoting it as a big smash it is sure to rise to a level almost unheard of before.

Junk food chains have had their drinks and "fries" positioned for optimum presentation in the movie, and have coordinated promotional packaging to begin today throughout the free world. Couple this with long sycophantic 'featurettes' and 'behind the scenes' (long adverts) explaining to all that that this story is the best film ever made, and those who don't see it clearly don't deserve to be a member of modern society.

The special effects were breathtaking - and do you know what? They were not only good, they were mind-blowing. Good visual effects alone don't make a great film though, which is what makes the plot so special...

The Escalating Story is the kind of movie so giddy with its own outrageousness that one doesn't even blink at such howlers in the plot. Directed by Pedronicus, The Escalating Story is a pastiche of conventions from flying-saucer movies from the 1940s and 1950s, replete with icky monsters and bizarre coincidences that create convenient shortcuts in the story. (Such as the way the girlfriend of the hero--played by AAfitz in drab--just happens to run across the president's injured wife, who are then both rescued by Blitzaholic's character who somehow runs across them in the alien-ravaged English countryside as they discover that Hitler--played by ptlowe-- is actually the alien leader.) The movie is just sheer fun, aided by a cast that knows how to balance the retro requirements of the genre with a more contemporary feel.

The stories are just coming in now of audiences actually crying in the cinema as they feel so proud to be part of the human race. Alien audiences are already protesting that this feels like a propaganda film to tell you how fantastic humanity is, and those alien audiences didn't quite see the films merit and found it embarrassingly cringeworthy.

Film at 11, right after Flop that House.

Rocketry

1) reckon you could avoid using the "quote" button on the whole story?

2) to answer your question, I'll repeat an earlier statement...
"just read 1 paragraph and if you're not hooked, stop reading..."

3) and if you do keep reading it, it will last only 5 minutes... just think, that's less time than you waste during 2 commercial TV breaks...

+Respect

Too many people, particularly teens, dislike reading intensely. Me? I'm 16, and my parents freaking took away books from me for punishment :P

I read the whole thing, and it was written very well. Doesn't take long to read, either. I look forward to seeing any future story addons ^^

Nice story. Reminds me of my dad's experiences just after the war, sailing a ship from San Fran, through the canal and up into the Great Lakes. He said in the Caribbean these enormous bees or wasps would come bombing out from the islands and smack into the ship with a sound like bullets hitting. And at night, all around the horizon, you could see the flickering of tropical storms.

Very evocative.

Might try a story or two myself.

Mmmmm cut to the chase, most people here are posting because they have a self made image of Robinettes Thighs.

I imagine that they are big, warm, and also welcoming. If luck would have us, also Bi-Lingual.

Now there is an idea..

I would love to translate the difference between Thunder-Thighs and the intelligent thought process. One minute a man has a ground breaking theory, the next minute it is lost because a couple of huge thighs are stopping him from breathing.. The thought is still there upon the nearly dormant surface, but the submissive soul is trapped because of latex social pressures.

Robinette... so when you search for images, did you know you wanted wrestling-related images, or did you just peruse through pages and pages of ladies' legs? :P

Do you really want to know... ok, i'll tell you :-$

i wanted to find a movie pic of that impossibly sexy chick that strangled men with her bare thighs while making love to them... but i couldn't find it... was that Lauren Hutton from Lassiter? or something from a bond movie? i just don't remember... so the wrestling pic had to suffice... took all of 3 minutes, but i'm still bummed it's not the pic i wanted...

But back on topic... did you read my escalating story?

Sorry..I have a terrible tendency to go off topic.

And yes, I read it all. It was fantastic! I wouldn't want to be that information-less recruit, sailing, sailing, and sailing with so little idea of what's happening in the world.
