I have the album, I've listened to it twice, and so far, I'm not impressed. I want to try to listen with a more open mind. I'm a big fan of Ten, and Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands. It's something new from them. I just don't think this is my type of music.

That said, I'd love to see them play live.

fair enough ten is a very hard album to beat,it was an anthem in my younger years,i find great groups mellow with the rest of us through time,im completley in love with (just breathe).never got to see them live myself yet, theres always time though, and owenshooter im full of envy, you are lucky to get a chances like that to see a great band just up the road, just cant see it happen in a wee village in scotland :(

The last PJ album I bought was Yield. I still listen to Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, No Code and Yield on a semi-regular basis.

Given how disappointed I've been with the seminal 90s bands as they've released albums in the 00s, I'm almost reluctant to buy new PJ just to keep my memory of them fond and rooted in that time period. An old buddy whose favorite 90s band is PJ really liked Vedder's solo work on the Into the Wild OST, and I've been sleeping on that one too.

Is there any place I can preview the album before I go out and buy it? Don't get me wrong, I respect and value your opinion (I didn't even know they had a new record out!) but a place where I could stream it first (that isn't iTunes) would be clutch.

As much as I loved Nirvana, I still say Animal is the best, most angry sexual abuse song to run 2:49 in length and be released in '93, despite Rape Me also running 2:49 and being released the same year.

Huge PJ fan. See avatar for evidence. The new album is awesome. The best in a while, definitely since Yield. From beginning to end it's very good. No throwaway songs like they are sometimes known for.

I like to think I'm a big Pearl Jam fan. I've been to a ton of shows (they are one of the best live bands).

That being said, I have been extremely disappointed in most everything since Yield. I have not purchased the newest album and don't plan on purchasing it. I suppose because I grew up with grunge (long hair, goatee, flannel shirt with t-shirt underneath, etc.) I don't get into Pearl Jam anymore because they aren't grunge anymore. I loved Ten, Versus is my favorite, Vitalogy was excellent. I'm just not into the new stuff because it's simply not MY Pearl Jam.

I believe this sums up perfectly how I feel about the new album. I listened to the first four tracks on my way home from work today, and listening with a more open mind, and not holding the band to my personal "Pearl Jam" standards, I have to say that yeah, it was good for what it is. But they aren't grunge. Grunge is still my favorite style of music, and this isn't that.

So yeah, this is growing on me, but not my favorite music.

listened to a break down of the album on sound opinions and it got one buy and one burn it... interesting... they both had great valid points. first, pearl jam is basically a classic rock band returning to a portion of it's sound that it does so well, and just gives more of it than we are used to with some "into the wild" soundish EV leftovers. second (burn it), when are they going to show us they can do something else? when are they going to give us an "achtung baby" that takes their sound to places we haven't imagined they can go. both very valid points, but still a very sound album that i am enjoying... and the show was great..-0

Yes.

I prefer Rearviewmirror or Dissident. Not really anthems per se, but they both encapsulate the grunge sound.

Also, I have hated and continue to hate Nirvana. I'm not sure why. Soundgarden, Alice in Chains? Love them. Nirvana... hate.

The new CD takes a few listens to appreciate. They are more subtle than they used to be. Each time I listen to it I like it more. I own all of their studio albums and several live ones. "Live at the Gorge" is great (7 discs). I saw them live in '92 and have always been a big fan.

I was blasting Vs. as I pulled into the parking lot for a semi-important meeting in Newark today.

The security guard asked me if I had the new album. He smelled like I assume Otto (a Brown alum, if it wasn't obvious) from The Simpsons always smells like...

We fist bumped as we both acknowledged how extremely fucking cool PJ was back in the day. There's something cathartic about screaming along to Animal before heading in for a contract meeting and then having the parking lot guy recognize that you were rocking out and hopefully not picking up on your angst.

Kind of the complete emotional reverse outletting to that scene in Jerry Maguire when Jerry rocks out to Tom Petty.
