In fact, Edison, NJ should have been Hollywood. The process at the time required keeping the stage on a set of rails, so it could move during the day to capture the sun most effectively. Well, some guys by the names of Goldwyn, Mayer, and Warner, figured they could easily steal the technology and make more movies in less time if they went to a place that had sunshine almost constantly and was far enough away to delay patent suits long enough for the patent to expire.
And thus Hollywood was born.
And when I mean the South, it only goes as far west as Texas. And Florida doesn't really count, either.
