What do to when a treaty offer is ignored

I'm a little late in posting this topic....Because I've already lost the game.

When you play a Risk game with other people in the same room, and you offer a treaty, the other player is forced to, in some way, face your offer, and respond to it. But I was just playing a game where one player had 60+ territories, and I had about 35, and a third had only 12. I offered the latter a truce, figuring that the only way to not lose would be to team up temporarily to stifle the third player's attempts...

But the person didn't respond, and we both lost a few rounds later. How do I handle a position like that in the future, and is the risk of being ignored worth offering a treaty in the first place?

If you think the truce is in your best interests, then it's worth it. Personally, I consider any "ignored" truce to be tantamount to a "definite no" and proceed under that understanding (basically, my paranoia goes on high alert). If the person simply didn't read the chat, that's their problem, not mine.

i would have to agree with woodruff... if he ingored u then there is no treaty... but at the same time you should still focus on the strongest guy, if the guy with 12 regions hits u then the game is over either way.. at least u tried.. anyone with a grasp on the game will follow along until the game is more evened out... good luck

I think that it is useful to check if the person whom you suggested a treaty has made any changes in their troops deployment. Sometimes people do not write anything that they accept proposed treaty (as there are quite a lot of "anti-truce" people who attack others just for creating truces), however their actions clearly indicate that your suggested treaty is acceptable to them.

Of course, in such situations nothing is guaranteed and supposed truce might break any time.

Best thing to do is to look what's happening on the board. If you notice that the other player is actually attacking your enemy (even when he doesn't respond), I go along with it, but I still keep my borders safe. When there's no formal response, I don't consider myself in truce, but I don't attack that person until he attacks me or until I consider that beneficial). Just play your normal game and read the board (that's the best advice I can give).

At your mentioned situation I would have attacked the strongest player and hope for the best. There's no difference if you will be taken out before him, but if you can actually win, try it.

It depends on the situation. I always do two things in games with 24 hour turns.

One I send a PM to the player asking them to check the game chat in whatever game it is. I do not repeat the truce offer or make any additional comments in the PM. I simply state "Please check the game chat in game xxxxxxx."

Two I check to see if they have been online. If they've been online during the time my post in game chat has been up and have not responded I operate as if there is no truce. If they haven't I may hope for the best.

In other circumstances (8 player doubs or 8 player singles) you may offer a truce on a border with someone early in the game because it would help both of you grow. A non response in that case I often equate to a declaration of war.

If its a three player game and I am fighting with one person and offer a truce so that the third person does not win and it is rejected I usually will continue the fight because I often think its reckless to reject that truce and I don't want someone reckless winning.

That being said, Speed games I never really care about all that much. I just play them to work on Metals and expect to lose points over time in them.
