I'm sorry you're asking me to pick one song? I can't I'll try to pick one for each band that stands out as one of the greatest though...

Bob Dylan-Desolation Row

Pink Floyd-Comfortably Numb/Echoes

Rolling Stones-Sympathy for the Devil

Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody

By Thriller you mean that one done in the prison yard right?

I can't hear 'Bad to the bone' without thinking about Al Bundy with a burrito and yet it still stands.

Nice Canadian song there Woodruff.

Was Coven Canadian? I didn't even realize that. I am convinced it's one of the greatest rock songs of all time, though most people I talk to can't even recall it. (And hell, I got the name wrong, somehow.)

No, they covered it and I don't know if it's all factual but the story is kind of interesting about how that came to happen.

The lines in "The Legend of Billy Jack" kinda summed up why I decided it would be a good idea to be Christian...

Go ahead and hate your neighbour.
Go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven.
You can justify it in the end.

Looking forward to a lot of forgiveness.

The Wikipedia pages on both The Legend of Billy Jack and on Coven are very interesting - thanks for that.

How do you determine whether something is "Rock" or "Pop" then? Isn't "Pop" simply short for "Popular"? Is "Rock" not supposed to be popular then?

"Sympathy for the Devil" and "Inagaddadavida" are two of the greats. I would also add "Time" by the Chambers Brothers, "Purple Haze" by Hendrix, "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Crossroads" by "Cream" and "Suzy Q" by Credence.

Honibaz
I don't disagree with Imagine (kind of overrated too) but Bohemian Rhapsody is rock.

I just can't pick a favorite there's so much out there. I have to say nobody covers the Travelling Wilburys better than those guys. They definatly have several songs on my giant list. You'll have to go out and buy "Picture of health" because there isn't a decent version of the song on youtube.

I was lucky enough to see them live a couple of times. By far the best shows I have ever seen. Small bar, loud music, lots of energy. Picture of Health is such a great album for a debut.

I got to see the Headstones at a ski hill on July first the day someone was hit by lightning after we left. They tore it up.

I'd agree with that one.

Have a weird mash-up of the song with Coldplay (Yeah, I know):

Youtube

Really kicks in around 1:35 or so.

No. That would be me mistaking "in the dark" for "with myself".

Not nearly as much after some unfourtunate incidents I can't really go into further due to the pending legalities of breaking the court ordered media ban.

Do I have to have just 1?

Forty-Six N Two by Tool
Crawl Away by Tool
Dragonfly by Shaman's Harvest
Passive by A Perfect Circle
Snuff by Slipknot

That's just for the present era of the genre.

Really? That's shouldn't even be in his top 5 best songs...better songs by springsteen: Born to Run, Thunder Road, JUNGLELAND (In bold because it's what you should have labeled his best), The RIver, Cover Me, I'm On Fire, Brilliant Disguise, Rosalita, Born in the USA and i could go on from there and name more and that's just Springsteen.

I saw them live a few years ago in a small venue...they were good. Small venues are the best, really, to see a band. I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn in a pretty small hall...just awesome. I actually saw The Clash in a gymnasium...it was really good. On the other hand, I saw The Who at the old Exhibition Stadium, along with about 65000 other people, and it was unfuckingbelievable.
