The encroachment helped the Spanish more than it did the Paraguese. The Paraguayan(?) penalty should've been retaken as there was clear encroachment. The ref was probably informed on it later and so he looked for it in the Spanish penalty where it happened again.

The spanish did not get screwed by the system, they were breaking the rules and got away with it for the Paraguayan penalty.

The system helped the Spanish a lot more as a) The paraguayan missed penalty should've been retaken b) The offense could have easily been a red card for the way he held on c) They did encroach and break the rules and paid the price d) The offside goal should've stood

So Paraguay got the really short end of the stick in that game.

Oh do be quiet......Cardozo was attempting to play the ball, he was therefore interfering with play. What part of that dont you understand?

Pique shouldn't have been shown a red, as he wasnt the last defender. The Paraguayan who fouled Villa for Spains penalty, on the other hand, should have been shown a straight red. I notice you didnt say anything about Spains missed penalty, perhaps because a Paraguay player was enchroaching?

Gypsy is exactly right here and this is from an impartial viewpoint.

Germany, Spain and Netherlands are well matched
and should be great contests in any combination.

He attempted but the most he did was distracting defence, which in my opinion is not interfering with play. Still I can see why the linesman made the decision he did and it was a tough one.

I agree it should not have been a red and wasn't, however I was saying he was lucky in that it wasn't, because it could've been interpreted as a red. Especially this world cup where in the beginning of the tournament there were more red cards than goals.
In the case of Villa, he dived or at least took a slight knock as a cue to fall with indignation. From what I saw of Spain's missed penalty it seemed it was the Spanish who encroached.

I think that is obvious now for everybody that Netherlands will win the World Cup.

Just because I've known it from the start, doesn't make it obvious to everyone. Some people still think the USA are going to win it.

AMEN my brodda!! yes i think the netherlands could be considered favourites at this point, we have a much easier semifinal and whoever we meet in the final, it woul be a maximun 45-55 spread game on who wins it all.

this factory nearby is already printing championship gadgets that will sell like crazy if holland wins, but will probably recycled if they loose. pretty risky, but it has to be done!

tonight it will be a 2-0 for holland,
van persie, the deception of the tournament till now, will finally score, giving himself confidence and making them even more dangerous than they have been up till now !

A Dutch pornstar has promised hummers for all her twitter followers if the Dutch win the world cup. Now THAT'S commitment. Ole' Miss Busty-Paraguayan-Who-Promised-To-Streak-If-Paraguay-Won could learn a lesson.

I'll be sad when the cup is over. Just wish I didn't get so hosed on the time difference so that 99% of the games are either on when I'm asleep or at work.

I suppose you can look forward to 2014 Brazil, where the timezones will be more in line with North and South America.
