You should read what Jesus wrote. You might learn something.

If someone "claims" to follow Christ they should never, under any circumstances "shed blood" but maybe if YOU read what Jesus wrote you'd know that.

Yeah, so Jews don't have an opinion on this? Only Atheists and Christians?

"No agreement today, no agreement tomorrow" mentality is what we have here.

The Book of Jesus was mysteriously absent from the Bible I read as a kid. Maybe you found a copy?

Of course he did. It's in the Bible, LOL. Of course what he actually wrote was never recorded.
John 8:2-11 wrote:But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle. They said to him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he bent down and wrote on the ground. And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She replied, "No one, sir." Then Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, (and) from now on do not sin any more."

Well, I certainly can't see any internal contradictions in that particular chain of reasoning.

God inspired the Bible, wrote the Bible, didn't write the Bible, was in the Bible, and said the Bible, simultaneously.

Makes perfect sense Jay. I can't see why people don't take you more seriously.

There is a logical error in your argument. In line one Scripture (another term for the Bible) is "inspired" by God, in line 3 it was "authored" by God. Which is it? You do realize that the only words written by God, the Father, (which by the way was limited to exactly ten, although he did rewrite them so it comes up to twenty) are also not recorded anywhere in the Bible. Odd, isn't it?

P.S. Scripture was inspired by God, through the person of the Spirit, not the Son, so double fail.

Judging by all the commentary in this post I think everyone can agree the original article was wrong.

Not wrong, no... though as you pointed out, it should not be confined to just Atheism and Christianity. Trouble is, too many people see any agreement with those having different views as a "failure", so they will even turn against their own arguments when they are voiced by the "opposition".

And yet, you think it is absolutely OK to advocate policies that very much will result in shedding of blood, and like Pilot claim ignorance and no responsibility for that result.

You tell me to "take my 30 sheckles", claiming I am Judice for promoting tolerance. Yet, that is exactly what Christ did, as exemplified most in that story tzor copied. Further you take the additional step of claiming that I actually advocate , like and agree with actions that I merely say should not be made illegal. You, sir are no representative of the God I worship or Christ in these actions.

But there is clearly disagreement between the two camps even on these specific things.

More disagreement on this guy's reasoning. The rest of the debate here has not been especially about the points, but tangential issues. And, even when there is debate, while sincere, it is not always consistant or sensical in the face of other arguments voiced here.Saxitoxin excepted, because we all know everything saxi says is utterly sensible

Yup, jay_a2j's response together with your post was pretty hilarious

Anyway, the good habits (for instance not killing people) Jesus advocated should be taught to people by their parents. Instead of telling people to read the Bible and 'learn something', I would rather urge people to discuss what's wrong and what's right with friends or family.
What do you feel is normal human behaviour, and do you think you need the Bible to keep you and others displaying that behaviour?

Um, actually yours is pretty funny too, since you kind of missed the whole point and clearly misunderstood. I myself hardly think you need the bible to guide your actions. However, since Jay does use the bible, and profess to worship Jesus who he feels is God, its more than reasonable to suggest that he is out of line when discussing war, or the taking of human life, especially since he was justifying it.

You seem to have just gotten a little confused simply because of a quick word choice that pimpy picked up on when I said Jesus wrote, rather than "people wrote what Jesus supposedly said"

I do however think that most of the preaching of Jesus are actually pretty solid morals to live by. My own moral ideas are based on them completely, and the fact that I dont happen to believe he is God, does not make me question the morals that seem to be self evident.

No, the error is when you pretend you can even fathom the meaning of the word logical.

So, you continually fail, and so successfully and fully, that it could not possibly be more entertaining.
