Yes, the randomness does contribute to the excitement that you won't find in chess. And I wouldn't want CC to eliminate that excitement. However, I detect a groundswell of interest in adjusting CC's luck/skill balance a little more toward the skill side. Now that there are enough combinations of game settings, you can find one you're good at and be the best in that category. If we tilt the balance toward skill, you'll advance in rank more often by developing skill in your chosen setting category than by lucky streaks.DogAlmighty wrote: The thing about risk is that it is unlike most other PC based wargames in which a Very Strong Army will always beat a Very Weak Army. Not so in risk in which we must be content that it will "probably" beat that army. And considering YOUR luck (thats right I mean YOU!) that Strong Army will probably just evaporate without causing any damage at all. Your armies probably even evaporate while you sleep at night for no reason, quick check your games!
But thats just the nature of the beast and the game is still good fun. The uncertainty of it all even adds flavour in a good way.

Pretty accurate for me besides #7. I'm starting to like tourneys more and more, though. It's the best way to make sure you play a diverse bunch of good (if not at least competent) teams.Commander62890 wrote:Why CC is fun:

you really should play the 8 mans, they are so much fun though hard to learn so you need to be willing to lose points at firstCommander62890 wrote:April, when I finished getting my medals.ljex wrote:when was the last time you played speed freestyle?
But I never really played 8-man Esc, nor did I truly farm 1v1s. My rank was never above Major, and it was sometimes even below Lieutenant.
At some point, maybe 6 months from now, maybe several years - I will go back to speed games and farm for points to reach General.
It is the last great challenge for me, and I need to know whether or not I can do it.
You're right, though - right now, Speed Freestyle is not a reason why CC is fun for me, because I don't play it. However, it does interest me, and I will get to it at some point.
Technically, this thread actually did originate as a "dice moan."jeraado wrote:Isn't it a bit sad that even a thread on the positive bits of CC has been taken over as a dice moan.

It sure as hell isn't the random generator.
All bitching aside, it really takes the fun out of the game, the site and what little time I still invest in CC these days.
Because hundreds of thousands of dice are thrown each day on this site? So the "odds that shouldn't happen so often" tend to happen way more often.BIGMEANIE wrote:
if the odds of absolute junk dice (e.g. losing 6 units in 6 straight 4v1 attacks) occurring as are as low as they are, why do these junk dice seem to happen so often? i mean, its like an everyday thing. sign on to cc, open a game, get totally screwed over, log off, repeat. the amount of units i am losing these days against measly 1s is just ridiculous.
the end.

CC is still fun because I make it so. I could have a totally un-fun time on CC, but why would I want to do that? I've never been into masochism.

For me, the bad dice seem to come and go on regular occasion. Except AoR2, in which case they come but never seem to goE-morc wrote:i like it even though ive only played for a few weeks but the dice are really sucky lately for me
