Subdivision of "Random map"

Postby Mr_Adams on Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:18 pm

Have 3 separate random options, one for the largest 30 maps, one for the smallest 30 maps, and one for all maps.

30 is an arbitrary number, up for debate.

Will improve the following features of the site:
This gives an OPTION to play 2 player games without risking hive, and playing 8 mans without risking Doodle. However, if you want to play the normal random option we have now, it's still there.

So basically, you want a random that's not.

I want a random with a smaller pool from which to be chosen, if you feel so inclined. eg- you have an hour to play a speed game, and start a 2 man random, you don't get stuck with a 2 hour game of hive.

If you go to random.org and create the parameters 1 through 30, does the limitations make the outcome not random? It's random based on more specific parameters.

I like the idea. One may want to play random among Luxembourg, Ireland etc but not want to include more involved maps like The Hive, Clandemonium or Feudal Epic.

if the OP wants to randomise a smaller pool of maps he can do as ViperOverLord suggests

So when you want to get
Random Gold Medal you choose
2 maps that you are good at
and make a 'random choice' !!

Yupi!!

Implement!

Now!!

If you read the suggestion. You'll see it is for three sub-categories of Random Map.
Essentially, the OP wants. Random - Small, Random - Medium, and Random - Large.

I would make different groups, seperate standard maps from other maps, but perhaps that could be mixed .... big standard, small standard, big other maps, small other maps. I really like the random option, but i always fear that i will get a standard map (and that risk is a lot higher than getting Doddle)

 Just like the dice aren't random? If the random is chosen from maps under 75 territories, it is still chosen randomly. I don't see why people don't get that.

I do like this idea. I just joined an 8 player doubles random and ended up with Luxembourg. Not very enjoyable in my mind.

There could simply be a region threshold for what category a map would fall under. So the small or large categories are roughly half the maps each. Random from 180 or from 90 is still quite random.

I know everyone's different, so I'm not saying you should think this way...but that's what I love about the current random. There is so much opportunity to find a different sort of challenge and in an unexpected way. It's not just variety of maps, but the variety of situations that I love.

Cause you can put only blue marbles in pot and
then 'random' pull out a BLUE MARBLE!!

Yupi!

Your suggestion nullifies Random Map Medal.

Do you now understand?

You have made a conditioned random draw.

You must be working in some goverment institution,
when you apply such logic

So you can choose to get only small maps, only large maps, but not random 'normal' maps?

I think this idea is dead in the water due to the new medal for playing random maps. No way you can get a medal as easy as playing only on maps you like or know..

sorry, but you can stop posting now

it will not be possible to design this without breaking up the medals. so this setting is not going to be implemented, not even when it does not count for medals. There are no free tryouts on this site.

i read you the first time, but even so, it will not be done.

Personally, I don't even see the need for medals at all. Especially not ones you can farm and get. General contribution is great, as well as maps and tournaments. But I think the others are unnecessary.

Regardless, this thread is not about that.

Sebstar, this could be done, but it's all about the code required, and the community support.

Drunkmonkey, posting in your own topic over and over is not the way to gain support, either an idea will pick up on its own, or it won't. An occasional bump is fine, but let the opinions roll in. If you have something meaningful to add the conversation, by all means, do so.

If you read nothing else, read this.

First of all, it isn't my topic. Every opposing opinion is about medals, which has nothing to do with the suggestion. I was trying to direct it back on topic. I realize now that repeating this fact added nothing, but I couldn't think of another way to drive it into their heads. I'm done now - for real. This is my last post in the topic. I've conceded to the fact that this won't happen, and there's no use bickering about it. I apologize for any incivility I contributed to.
