Deferred Troop Bonus

Post by Epsilonymous »

I'm not sure if this would go under "Questions" Or "Suggestions"

I've noticed a strategy popping up in which players miss a turn in order to receive their due troops plus deferred troops.

Will there ever be an option to turn off deferred troop bonuses, when creating a game? Is this a problem that has already been recognized or am i just being paranoid about people getting a modest offensive advantage by innocently missing a turn?

Thanks,

First off, they do not get an advantage. You have an extra turn to break any of their bonuses before their next go, potentially making them lose twice as much as they would have if they did not miss their turn at all

Secondly, I do not believe it will ever be an option

Being paranoid does not mean someone is not following you ;-)

in the majority of the sequential games there is no advantage to missing a turn. because you can get spoils, because autodeploy does not activate, because it annoys people enough to now finally kill you and a few others..

the rationale for getting deffered troops it that you have an incentive to get back to the game. Normally loosing a turn is just game over. deffered troops means they cannot have an offencive advantage, the deferred troops only get into play AFTER the attack. so if anything it is a defensive advantage.

when can it be adventagious to miss turns? when there are multiple players, who then do not attack you, but eachother.
When you have a bonus and they are going to break it anyways, unless they think you are no threat.

there is one big advantage to missing a turn. When there are no spoils, and a few small bonusses you get to wait and see and then take the bonus and get an unexpected reinforcement that can tip the balance.

There is also freestyle manual where not deploying can give you a strategic advantage in the start..

morals: if you ignore a player who is missing turns (when he has a bonus or 12+ territories), you do so at your own peril.

intentionally missing turn can be seen as abuse of the system, so whomever does this regularly for a strategic advantage is running the risk of being reported and getting a penalty.
