Re: Romania - historically accurate map

Post by feyerv »

Those bonuses will work.

I am using Photoshop. I don't have a lot of experience in graphics design so I cannot create a Lord of the Rings map with graphics but simple ones, like this one. I don't have the skill to create a geographical map either.

I will redo the colors and names of course but the borders and mountains will pretty much stay the same. In any case, I'll add more graphics when we get there (do my best).

So what's the next step?

Damn, if you were using GIMP I could have helped... I don't have PS so can't help you much there.

Anyway, the next stage is getting your map in a more presentable shape. You should have most of the graphical elements in place... title, legend, bonus values, all map rules that need to be mentioned... and you should have a clean layout & design.

You could ask Photoshop tips from Isaiah40, Industrial Helix, RedBaron0... they all use PS, I think. And they also have those blue names that signify how much they love to receive pm:s from new mapmakers and help them overcome their troubles ;)

I suppose you could also take a look at my tutorials, they are written for GIMP but perhaps you can get some idea of the workflow by reading them through.

Also, getting back to the gameplay a bit... I think you said at some point that you'd like to include some cities on the map. Do you have any plans for them?

I don't know if I should add cities, was thinking of adding 2 cities one the capital and another in Transilvania.

I don't want them to ruin the gameplay, not sure if I should add any. I could add major cities (for people to hold) and they could be in:
Ilfov - Muntenia
Cluj - Transilvania
Constanta - Dobrogea
Timis - Banat
and maybe Iasi (moldova),buzau (i come from there - definitely want to add this one) and brasov.

These are the major cities that could have a +1 if someone holds them and a +3 if someone holds 2 or something.

So:
1)title
2)legend,
3)bonus values,
4) all map rules (which ones)

"clean layout & design" = more specific (or more details)?

Best,
Gabriel.

Well, I think they could spice up the gameplay nicely, making the map a bit less "vanilla", adding that little bit of flavour to make the map stand out a bit more.

You could think up a bonus for the capitals... a collection bonus could work, something like +1 for 2, +2 for 3, etc. Or you could just give them an autodeploy... either way, I think they could spice up the map nicely.

Well, how should I put it... your map should have a clean, professional look. Like, no pixelated borders, no colour bleed, etc. You should have at least some kind of graphical layout, an image that gives an idea of how the final map will look like - fonts, backgrounds, bonus colours, borders, etc. should be done neatly.

The image is a bit too large... the maximum size is 840x800.

Also, add territory names.

I'll shrink the image at the end so quality is not lost.

I uploaded the new map.
What's next step?

Edit: Is the city bonus section clear? It means if you hold 2 of those cities you get +1... etc.

Can you draw some kind of icon for the cities? It's hard to find them based on a list of names.

Also, can you save your images in the .png format, your jpg:s look a bit fuzzy.

Hi,

Added marks to cities and also added some railroads for better mobility.
Changed the city bonuses.

Can you change the font of the territory names? I find it very difficult to read. I like the script, but something less chunky?

Ok... there's a bit too much empty space around the land area... You should re-crop the map a bit. Move the bottom-left legend right, the top-right legend down a bit, and then crop the image so that you get rid of the empty space on the left and top sides of the map.

Would you care to explain what you mean by this map being "historically accurate"?
It looks to me like the borders of today's state. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but you say you want to satisfy historians, and I'm a historian and I don't understand what you're trying to do.

I think it looks good though.

Thanks again and sorry for not being able to finish this.

Moving this one into the ideas subforum, according to the current Foundry Guidelines --> http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewto ... 3#p3292833
If the map has NOT received at least the Draft Stamp, it will be considered just an advanced idea and therefore it will be moved back to the Idea Subforum.
