Contrary to most new players, he actually used the tabs (Help, social etc.) correctly. he had a site related question, and he used help.

I'm still surprised at how easily he was banned. No explanation, no nothing.

I wouldn't have the time to get into the declining literacy of the world, but why do people have an issue understanding the help IRC is for help? Oh well, just wait until 2112...

But the thing so many people just shrug off is the mods using the power that they have incorrectly... the man stated on the other site he loves that he can say naughty words and not get in trouble, I am sure hes not gonna come over to this site and read all the rules before doing anything, so he comes in thinking he can say words that he does over there... no warning, BAM.. banished.. if it was me I would probably leave the site if I was brand new.

Just something to chew on... mods need to talk to mods and figure something out that is fair all around and make sure these power out-lashes don't happen all the time, this is why they have warnings.

True that I won't read the rules before posting, but common sense dictates law on the tubes of Gore. I can't come up with many forums in which I would receive a vacation for a passing remark that something was 'gay'. Also, upon analyzing this forum, nobody else appears to have been banned for such a comment. Warlight will ban you for swearing, but if it began banning people for comments like 'gay' or 'retarded', it would have little to no member base. Either way, I will stick around long enough to play some of these weird maps, only because of my love for risk. I suppose something more than a one day ban from chat would have to occur before I responded with a general 'f*** it' and stormed off.

One other possible reason that she kicked you is because she might suspect you of being a multi, aka you used to have an account here & made a new account, which is against rule #1. Considering new players on CC rarely even venture out into the forums or live chat (much less join a Mafia game) she does have some ground for that suspicion, but if you're not a multi you should be fine

The "gay" remark - well, that discussion has happened before. A good response would have been "please don't use that word (or several others) in cc in a derogatory manner, or there will be sanctions". How hard would that have been?

Well, when I read it I wasn't sure if it was genuine friendly humour or sarcasm. Depending on how you look at it, either interpretation is possible. Judging by the responses, jonesthecurl saw it as genuine friendly humour, while KoolBak thought it was sarcasm. Myself, I was undecided.

I guess, though, that this encapsulates perfectly what the difficulties are with trying to moderate chat. Language is a very slippery thing, and it's often very difficult to decide what constitutes humour and friendly banter versus what constitutes malice. It's even sometimes difficult to draw the line when you're dealing with people you know personally and very well, so it's astronomically difficult when the people concerned are essentially strangers whom you know only from a few lines of text. Not surprisingly, people often feel that the mods were either too paranoid, or not paranoid enough. What is surprising is not how many people feel mis-modded, but rather how few. Personally, I would rather eat crushed glass than be a chat mod. My hat is off to them.

I am generally on the side of 2112 here about the welcome he received. But also want to say that people don't need to focus on the mods abusing power. It was a mod. Mods in general are a pretty swell group.

If I say 'gay' in Live Chat, the consequence is a warning, or nothing. Even if the same mod is in here I think. I'm in Live Chat often enough to know people can say things and no mods will even reply.

He was not hostile towards those of gender and sexual orientation. He clearly made a statement in which the term "gay" was used, to mean "different and or queer" And BTW queer is not a biggoted term either, in this meaning.

Actually, you're wrong. I support 2112, because I don't have a problem with it. But people who do have a problem with it, think of it as hostile. It's not the person's intentions, it's the other people's perception that matters.

And the only way that gay and queer are synonyms are when talking about homosexuality. He did not 'clearly [make] a statement in which the term "gay" was used, to mean "different and or queer"' (I hated quoting that because of the errors.) He used gay to mean stupid. As in it's stupid that we don't have speed games for freemiums.
