Re: NFL Picks: Week 13 - Thurs. Giggles & Gawks

Post by Army of GOD »

After watching the highlights of the Panthers game, I'm fearful for Newton's health. He runs well, but he runs like a power runningback. It's only a matter of time until he gets hit hard and is out for a while. They need to stop giving him so many runs...he's too good of a passer.

The same thought might apply to Tebow as more injuries to key players
on potential playoff teams occurred today.

The Broncos are now part of the AFC's 7-5 herd,
but currently hold 1st Place in the West.

The Cowboys are driving me nuts... less than 50 seconds remain in the game
as Romo completes a pass for a first down that puts them in long FG range
and with 2 timeouts in their pocket they screw around lining up to spike the
ball, running about half the time remaining off of the clock. Major brain fart
by the complete coaching staff by not using a time out to set up a play or two
to get a little closer. A perfect 50 yarder splits the uprights, but doesn't count
because Dallas has now called a time out, right at the snap of the ball.
The second attempt comes up short and Garrett has succeeded in icing his own
kicker to send the game into overtime.

ARRRRGH!

He only had 2 run-options (no draws, IIRC. One of them was the 2 point conversion.) the whole game. 2 others were scrambles. But at least the options are misdirections. I think 2 of Newton's goal line sneaks were straight up the middle, which is not safe at all for a quarterback.

The Texans lost Matt Schaub for the year on quarterback sneak.

Haha, so I was driving home and turned on the local ESPN radio and this host from Albany was pretty much bashing Tebow. Essentially, he was comparing Brees' and Rodgers' performances yesterday to Tebow's and then proclaiming that Tebow "was not going to the Hall of Fame" because he didn't put numbers up like them.

Jesus Christ, lay off him. He hasn't even started a full season. Not that I'm saying that he has a free ride to the Hall of Fame, but give him some fucking time to develop. Rodgers wasn't even playing in his second year in the league.

This league is about two things: numbers and rings. Tebow, at this point, has neither.

I said a few weeks ago we'd find out who the real Tim Tebow was after this stretch of games. Looks like New England will be the only challenge. They're not who they used to be, but the Pats are still an elite team. If Tebow can get it done, he'll prove himself. If not, it was probably to be expected.

I think the bigger challenge for Tebow will be the Bears because their defense is a perennially elite. Against New England, we'll learn if he can keep up with Brady in a shoot out (though, he hasn't even started a full season, so even then it's kind of unfair to judge him so early).

I think the biggest game for our team, though, will be the season finale against the Chiefs. I think it'll be a win-and-in game, but obviously the Chiefs are going to play hard to keep us out of the playoffs.

But still...Dalton got romped by the Steelers. I like his potential, but it's too early to judge rookie QBs and Tebow (who's started less games than Dalton and Newton).

I think you're jumping the gun a bit here, I mean it's just his second year
and he's only been the starter in a handful of games. Tebow's in the same
boat as Newton and Dalton, they all show promise but are just beginning their
NFL careers. With any luck they will develop the skills it takes to go far and
all have done well enough at this point to give their teams (and fans) great
hope for the future.

To expect Tebow to git er dun this year is a bit much...

Week 13
PHI @ SEA ... Eagles downward spiral continues
NYJ @ WAS ... Skins tougher out than expected for the Jets
KC @ CHI ... Chiefs defense stuffs the Bears
TEN @ BUFF ... Bills on a 5 game skid
OAK @ MIA ... Raiders no longer lead the West
CIN @ PITT ... didn't realize the Bengals were missing both starting corners for this one
ATL @ HOU ... Texan's defense is still solid
DEN @ MIN ...Tebow & the Broncos do it again & now lead the AFC West
CAR @ TB ...Newton Rocks the Bucs
IND @ NE ...one game closer to 0-16 perfection for the Colts who get the Ravens next
BAL @ CLE ...Ravens may be the toughest AFC contender
GB @ NYG ...Rodgers does it in the final minute and the Pack Clinch NFC North
DAL @ ARI ...Arrgh! Cowboys lead NFC East by default
STL @ SF ...Niners clinch the West
DET @ NO ...no Suh the Saints Brees past the Lions
SD @ JAC ...Chargers finally roll

11-5 . . . 122-74

Thursday Night Game
Browns @ Steelers

All I'm saying is that Tebow lacks the things that wil make him remembered. Either years from now I'll tell my kids about this guy who was a charismatic quarterback who fell through or they'll ask me who Tim Tebow was and why he's in the Hall of Fame. If Tebow wins a Super Bowl, if this lasts more than a season or two, people will shut up. Not only that, you'll see other teams playing a similar game.

But as a mild retort, you know who won a Super Bowl in his second year? This guy:

f*ck YOU PANCAKE

'05 was the last time we had a legitimate playoff run. After Pittsburgh beat New England, I thought we would be in the Super Bowl, easy. We got dominated and we've sucked since.

I may be a Yinzer and a Steeler fan, but I'm just pointing it out. I'm actually supporting Tebow here, too, so no need to get riled up.

Didn't Big Ben also play his rookie season? I'm pleased to see Tebow
with the opportunity to play and happy for his early successes.

The guy has obvious athletic ability and a lot of QB breakthroughs
are usually being a good fit with a talented offense. Tebow came
into the league with as impressive a collegiate football resume as
anyone has ever had in the game.

Just like Rothisberger, Rodgers, Brees and Brady... I'm rooting for
Tim to rock the NFL.

I saw a columnist on Yahoo comparing Tebow to Flutie. Jury's still out for me, but the fact that his arm mechanics haven't changed much from college worries me.

I wasn't a fan of Tebow in college, and am not one now, but if his defense keeps games close and he gets some help on offense, it seems like he has a chance to keep on winning.

Week 13
PHI @ SEA
NYJ @ WAS Not sure how much it'll help, but a win's a win.
KC @ CHI Hurt ALL the players!
TEN @ BUF Titans get help from losses...
OAK @ MIA ..by the Raiders...
CIN @ PIT ..and the Bengals
ATL @ HOU Tough loss, but non-conference opponent and drops by other teams keep the Falcons in it.
DEN @ MIN When do we get a ridiculous one-liner for Tebow
CAR @ TB Cam sets a season record as the Panthers roll on past the Bucs.
IND @ NE Like a cat playing with a mouse before it kills it.
BAL @ CLE Baltimore proved they could come down from a big game. Could they fall to Indy?
GB @ NYG Real heartbreaker at the Meadowlands Pack looks unstoppable.
DAL @ ARI YUK
STL @ SF Cha-ching
DET @ NO The Lions have problems. Maybe next year...
SD @ JAC

12-4 122-65

Pittsburgh takes it Thurs.

When you look at what Tebow accomplished while at Florida
it was easy to hate him, because he was on their team.

He has the intangibles that make him an exciting player,
since you never really know what to expect, but know
what he's capable of doing.

You'd think that Tebow's 6-1 record would be enough to quiet the doubters and not only are they leading the AFC West, NFL.Com has them ranked at #8 in their Power Poll. The Broncos still have some tough teams remaining with Chicago, New England, Buffalo and Kansas City, but the Bills are the only road game.

Though people don't want to give Tebow credit, the defense did play pretty poorly against the Vikings. Ponder set a rookie record for the Vikings for most pass yards in a game (passing Tarkenton). Harvin had to ridiculous run and catches (granted, on one of them, Harvin through down Harris before he ever caught the ball and it should've been a penalty) and Gerhart ran pretty well.

McGahee is definitely one of the most underrated backs in the league.
