In politics, everybody is an idiot. I never said the middle were the smarties, you said that.

I know, I was inferring it from what you said. Do you consider yourself a centrist, or whatever term you would use to describe the middle? Do you consider your positions to be reasonable? I'm going to assume your answers to those questions are both yes because the probability is fairly high that it is.

All I said was that the people on the left and the right ignore the people in the middle because to them, everything must be broken down into left or right. That's the one thing I think the middle folks have over the left/right folks...they don't see fucking everything in blue or red. Other than that, they're just as massive of fucking idiots as the rest of them. The true smarties are the ones that stay the f*ck out of politics, see it for the cesspool of filth that it is.

Well I disagree, but that's a long conversation. I don't think the middle is ignored. In fact I think they're probably pandered to, and tried to be appeased and believed to get their way, by the peeps with the seats, more often than people in more lateral positions.

The problem with politics is that it is impossible to have perfect information on anything, which makes things messy and complex, and vulnerable to biases. Also people make shitty rationalizations for their beliefs/actions, and refuse to change a position after it's been utterly fucking decimated by good rational reasoned argumentation( There are a couple of forum members who nicely exemplify this incredibly frustrating specific behaviour).

Um... I don't think politics should be ignored. "Well duh TGD, you spend most of your waking life talking about them." Okay, yeah that's true, but I'm saying that the decisions made by the government directly affect your life and you should participate in the process to determine whether they are making good decisions.

You must not be familiar with the US Constitution. There are plenty of tasks in it that the federal government is responsible for doing. They should go back to doing just those tasks.

The Constitution is a pretty easy read. Its enumerated powers, especially of the legislative branch, is possibly the easiest section to read. What's unfortunate is that much of the federal government does today cannot actually be found to even be based, much less explicitly written, in the Constitution.
