Are you a fan of the books? The film-makers claimed that this was a project "by and for Tolkien fans." Part of the attraction and pleasure was in seeing how they took beloved characters and scenes, and portrayed them on the screen. Conversely, as a huge devotee of the (book) trilogy, I figured I was pretty much destined to hate the movies because "they could never match my sweet imagination" (hat tip to Paul Simon). As it is there are a number of things about which I am pissed at how they were done, so by a kind of twisted logic, the fact that I actually enjoyed watching them tells me that they must be even better than they seem to me.bedub1 wrote:What do you think are the most over-rated movies? So anyway, whether you are or are not a fan may explain, each in their own way, why you don't like the movies. Or it could just be that you're right, I'm wrong, and they're boring.
Edit P.S. about my avvy: That actually has nothing to do with liking the movies or the books in general. I liked this particular pose/action as it reflects my attitude in both the games and the discussions: "I salute you and respect you, my noble adversary. Now I'm going to chop you to pieces."

On the day the DVD of Titanic was released I was working in an optical shop in the Navy Exchange, a sort of mall on the base. Coming back from the office with my cash-drawer bag I passed a crowd of girls excitedly waiting for the doors to open so they could run in and buy it. I told them, "I'll spoil it for you. The boat sinks."Ace Rimmer wrote:As far as the title, I am not sure. I agree Titanic was massively overrated. I admit I did see it in the theater when it was first out (date movie!) and wasn't impressed then, and have never rewatched it.

What would you consider an underrated movie, Bedub?

Proud to say, I've never watched it! Sort of a pledge to myself.
Clearly, Avatar = WAY OVER RATED

I think I've seen Titantic once, or at least, I think I've seen all parts of it at sometime and could piece the movie together.
