Wow, Obama did not become a Christianit until he was almost 30????? I wasn't aware of that either. Maybe, just maybe, that is a legitimate reason for all the confusion about Obama's faith.

I however am CERTAIN that it had nothing to do with his desire to be a politician.....
Oh please. You cannot be THAT ignorant.

Obama is a Christian, has always followed the Christian faith, though he has knowledge of other faiths.. as a well-educated person ought.

But the greater question is who cares? Why does a person's religion matter, unless you are an ignorant idiot who thinks that only those who follow your particular brand of Christianity are worthy people?
Now you are making up lies. Twisting reality to fit your perception, I can understand, but why lie like this?

Obama himself says he did not find Jesus until he met Reverend Wright in his late 20's? Why are you making up lies to protect Obama in one sentence, then the next sentence you say it doesn't matter?

If it didn't matter, you wouldn't make up lies.... And I have no brand of Christianity. For you to assume that is what I am doing falls into the ignorant and idiot category you yourself pointed out.

LOL..LOL...LOL accuse my of lying while twisting my words again, I see....

MOST evangelicals talk about "finding faith" and "becoming a Christian" at some elder age. Most mainline Protestants, by contrast refer simply to being "raised in the faith" or some such. We may talk of joining a particular church congregation, but don't look to one "hallmark" moment of conversion.

Obama WAS raised in the Christian. When he "became" a Christian is a matter of faith definition. By implying that his reference to evangelical terminology means he might have been a Muslim or have held a different faith you "lie with the truth". You use words you must understand given other speach contests, but twist them to say something different to suit what you wish to say about Obama.

Aren't you speculating here? What is your source that Obama was raised a Christian and was it his Muslim step-father in Indonesia who did that?

Obam himself has mentioned it more repeatedly and to the extent anything of faith can be proven, Obama's mother and her family were Christian. He had little contact with his father. All reports support that Obama was raised a Christian. Even when he went to the mixed -religion school, he attended as a Christian. Sure, he heard the call to prayer and was taught about Islam with more knowledge than most US Americans are, but lack of ignorance is not reason for condemnation. At least.. it wasn't.

Onama's mother wasn't Jewish? What is the quote you refer to that Obama mentioned? And why do you minimize the quote I provided, something Obama also mentioned...that he did not turn to Christ until he was in his late 20's, and that it was Jeremiah Wright who showed him the light.

It seems like you are saying, that while in Indonesia, Obama's Muslim step-father and Jewish mother raised Obama a Christian? Is that about right?

I have a bridge for sale...interested?

Did you guys hear this one?

Obama dropped God and the birthplace of Jesus from the Democratic platform. I guess Obama needed to make room for murdering babies and homosexual marriage.

Is Obama's religion relevant to whether or not you'll vote for him?

We've already been over this, but it's been a while so.....why not!

Does it really have to be as black and white as "he is a (let's just say) Mormon, and I won't vote for a Mormon!"?

For me, I don't have a problem with what religion he is. But I do have a problem with people pretending to be something they are not, in order to gain votes. Do not you?

btw, it was a joke that I made up. did it make you chuckle, even just a little bit? Or did you rush straight to questioning me about my voting principles.

For someone who claims not to be religious, you sure seem to care a lot about religion. Much like your claims of not being a died-in-the-wool Republican, I suppose.
thegreekdog wrote:Is Obama's religion relevant to whether or not you'll vote for him?
The only thing that's relevant as to whether Phatscotty will vote for him or not is "D".

Wait a second ... Bethlehem was in the platform?

Because it's actually 5 miles SOUTH of Jerusalem.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen his birth certificate. Are we really sure he was actually born there?

Also, I want to know if people think Obama was being truthful about his religion as well as his position supporting marriage, or if he was being truthful about his religion but lying about marriage, or maybe if he was lying about his faith and his position on marriage.

I believe Obama is lying about his faith and he was lying about his position on marriage so that he could cheat and get elected. Perhaps that's why he appears to be such a shitty leader.....his entire career was built on misleading.

Look at this closely, because this is what it looks like when Obama is lying through his teeth.

I liked the argument on page 14 about which Jewish name was the most Christian.

Are you also of the opinion that there is no such thing as a Jewish name, Christian name, Muslim name....no way to tell which is which?

I don't know. I just pointed out that other persons amused me by confusing Jewish names with Christian ones. Get some math guys in here and work it out.

Why are the two statements contradictory? He can personally believe marriage should be between a man and a woman, but also believe that allowing gay marriage is in the best interests of society. He didn't say it's the right thing in the eyes of god or in reflection of his own faith, only that they should be able to.

Did you guys watch a different video????

He did too say marriage is a sacred union with "God in the mix". He absolutely did say it was a direct reflection of his faith, namely when he said "for me as a Christian....it's also......"

Then, Obama said "for me.....personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married". So, you see, he personally believed marriage was between a man and a woman when seeking election in 2008, and now he personally believes marriage is not only between a man and a woman.

The two statements are 100% contradictory. I don't know where you come up with "allowing gay marriage is in the best interest of society"...so, where did you get that version of events? Greek, since you somehow agree, you can chime in too.

I personally believe that gays should not be married (religiously).

I personally believe that gays should be married for state/federal purposes.

I personally believe that politicians change their views on various issues in order to get elected. And I personally believe that this is not just Democrats.

Honestly, the president (Obama) clearly did this for political reasons. I'm not sure I really care. Now, you're going to post something about how flip-flopping shows a lack of leadership skills or how we can't rely on anything he says, or something like that. And yeah, that's not a good thing. But you can't criticize him for this and then also defend Mittens for doing similar things (like, for example, his view on abortion or government-run health insurance).

It shows he cannot be trusted. But... I was pretty sure we already knew that??

And I wouldn't worry about me defending Mitt, as that has not happened and there is no reason to bring that up because the closest I will come to "defending" Mitt is to say he is not a Socialist
