Some years ago I visited the bridge on the river Kwai near Kanchanaburi in Thailand, the scene of horrific war crimes by the occupying Japanese.Whilst paying my respects to the victims of this outrage I was disgusted by the antics of some Japanese tourists, bedecked in cameras on the bridge, laughing and joking and being generally loud and obnoxious.A friend remarked to me,'the only thing they are sorry about is not winning",and this has stayed vividly in my memory,so I tend to agree with you..I cannot imagine Germans behaving so thoughtlessly at say Auschwitz, perhaps the difference is Japanese history education has attempted to cover up their crimes

no country that I know of is completely innocent. my own country's treatment of the people whose land we stole would hardly be considered less than criminal nowadays...
though interesting tidbit: I have heard (but cannot verify personally) that japanese schools don't speak of pearl harbor when they talk of WW2. apparently they're under the impression that we bombed the hell out of hiroshima and nagasaki (which they do cover) for funzies

... Let's pretend for a moment that you're Chinese (I say "pretend" because this web site was very difficult to view in China last time I was there, and by "difficult, I mean impossible)...
(unless of course you're a foreign student someplace in the free world)
... What's your take on this bit of news from your back-country? This trouble-maker had it coming?

oh come on, it's not like the Americans were any better. We forced Japanese-Americans into camps and then bombed the absolute shit out of civilians. then, some years later, we napalmed the shit out of Vietnam.

Why in hell would you say "we"?
You weren't even born and yet you choose to say "we" ?
I wouldn't say "we" even if I was civilian at the time.
