Political Correctness in the Office

Post by bedub1 »

I work in an office now. A higher-up boss comes into the office each morning and says, to a bunch of males: "Good Morning Ladies".

It surprises me as he's offending both men and women. Seems he'd be better off saying something like "good morning ass hats". at least then he's only offending the men, and not any women.

Do you have any examples of stuff that surprises you in the office?

I guess that I'm surprised that you find this everyday occurrence surprising.

Haven't you got used to it by now?

Honestly...that doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. How is that particularly offensive?

It's along the lines of telling a guy "you throw like a girl". It's meant to be disrespectful by implying that women are inferior to men.

Sort of like when the president of Mexico, when describing what hard workers Mexicans are, said "Mexicans do jobs that even blacks won't do." The blacks didn't really appreciate being the standard for how shitty a job is.

Sweetie, that might be the most trolling post I've seen in a long while. Maybe you need a time out.

Day 1 I am laughing.
Day 3 I am wondering what I did wrong to get in the hetero-patriarcharchial underclass.

My boss is very modern. When he goes to the pub after work and has a couple of shandies he likes to hug the young ladies from the team or pick them up and carry them round the bar. It is all very ironic, so that's OK then.

Haha, my boss told me on day one that "big socialist Muslim Obama is requiring me to give you this form detailing how much I'm paying you."

It was a single piece of paper. All it said was that you're being paid X amount, and asked if you understood the English language enough to read the previous statement. If not, they were to give you one in a language you could understand.

Then this elderly woman asked me if I agreed with her.

My father used to work for an American company, which of course was bound by your Affirmative Action laws, and once a year he had to fill out a form to send off to Chicago detailing what racial minorities he had hired.

Of course here in Canada, not only do we not classify employees by race the way you do, but in fact we are forbidden by law to ask what their race is (unless they're Treaty Status Indians) so it was anybody's guess what the racial makeup of the workforce was. My father and the other managers always got good and drunk before filling out the form, and then they had a blast reporting that they had hired, "1 polar bear, 3 raccoons, 5 beavers, 8 marmosets, and 2 spotted badgers" or whatnot.

I guess it would depend on the office and the work the office does. At my job we don't have many people in the office and currently only 3 ladies.

Saying "morning ladies" shouldn't be a gender discrimination issue unless there is a negative preconception about women at that workplace. Chances are the boss is just being silly in the case you site though. It's like saying "hey boys". That's not ageism unless young people in the workplace are looked down upon.

Here is model behaviour for office employees.

Man to hot girl: Can I smell your pussy?
Hot girl: No!!!
Man: Must be your feet then.

Please exhibit positive behaviour in your office.

when i was working in africa a female colleague told me that men ought to be above women in society because almost all the great things achieved throughout history have been achieved by men. she was one of the most senior people in the organisation.

where does that fit on your 'political correctness' scale?

sorry for if my english not very so good

diaoyu dao! zhong wen! diaoyu dao! zhong wen!

actually this reminds me. i have another political correctness scenario for you.

was out watching an anti-japan protest in beijing last week. saw a placard which translated literally as 'give me two guns, one to kill all the japanese men and another to rape their women with'. was later given a quick rundown of japanese war crimes by a colleague of mine, in the office, and told that i shouldn't use japanese accessories.

doesn't that just make you want to weep all over those trendy, lenseless spectacles of yours?
