Argo

Went to go see it last night. I was impressed with how free of hyperbole or propaganda it was.

Kudos on that- and Ben Affleck went up a few notches in my book for it.

I think I'll end up watching it (once it goes to DVD) but I hate Affleck as an actor. That won't work in the movie's favor.

I was of a similar opinion, hence why I mentioned him. You'll likely be surprised.

I watched Looper last week. It was great, really.

This guy Brian Johnson has become one of my favorite directors/writers. He also wrote/directed Brick and The Brothers Bloom.

Dammit, I really want to see Looper in theaters though. It looks pretty interesting.

I don't agree with the great part, but it's a solid movie. Definitely worth a see.

The one here in Ronkonkoma does, and usually it's lower price than the one on 347 anyway.

Also I've heard that PJ Cinemas is open.

It was very good, different, interesting, thrilling, and only a bit predictable and in things you don't mind much. It surprises you more than once with the direction the story unfolds. It was great, if this movie was made in the Inception way, we would be talking about the blockbuster of the summer, oscar worthy and stuff.

No, it's not the greatest movie of the decade but it's totally worth it the 10 bucks of going to the movies.

Symmetry's taste is a bit more educated though, I can understand he doesn't find it great.

Wow, what a fucking idiots they are then.

With the earnings they make in a week thanks to no competition elsewhere they would pay for the generators easily. How much can they cost.. 100k? They can sell them later for 60k. Besides the income from tickets and overpriced pop corn (they can even increase prices 30%) they gain publicity, non regular costumers to see their place, etc..

It's in Port Jefferson Station, basically at the intersection of Route 347 and Route 112. You could take 347 east until you hit the 112 intersection and it's right near there. It's a few miles from campus, and it's an old-style theater, but it's not expensive.

I was thinking of going to see Argo too, but I don't know that I should be spending money on movie tickets right now.

Okay....

This idea of sending people back in time to kill them is STOLEN from Doctor Who (the greates tv series ever).
The Weeping Angels already do that:

Pretty sure the idea of sending people back in time to kill other people is a lot older than fucking Doctor Who.

Not the same thing.
The weeping angels send the victim back in time, not the killer.

Maybe, but what would the Terminator have to do with that?

Terminator came out in 1982; Doctor Who started around 1964 or 65.

Nothing to do with the dates.
Again, it's about sending the victims back in time to have them killed, not the killer.
That's what the weeping angels do, an I think this idea first appeared in Doctor Who

That "Weeping Angel" thing is only from the Steven Moffat Doctor Who series in the last few years.

In any case it's cute how quickly this thread turned from a discussion of Argo to a discussion of sci-fi movies.

Is it really though? After all, Argo is basically about a sci-fi movie.
