I have a laptop. Every time I want to use it, I have to take it out of its case, dig out the DC rectifier from under the seat, plug it in, plug the AC adapter into the DC rectifier (funny how in order to get 9V DC I first have to convert 12V DC to 120V AC and then convert it back almost to the form it started in) wait 10 minutes for the thing to boot up, plug in the cellular adapter, wait another 10 minutes for signal acquisition, and then finally I'm online.
People with tablets turn them on and they're online. I'm so fucking jealous.

Maybe you shouldn't have a laptop from the 90s

3D porn is coming, I want to be ready
nietzsche wrote:I'm thinking of buying a laptop, I need recommendations
What I'm looking for mostly is a decent system but this specs are a must:
full hd display 1080p 1920x1080 MATE
ssd drive more than 128gb desired
8gb ram
ivy bridge processor
a decent video card, enough to handle the linux's 3d stuff
any recommendations?
I could all that from a Sager, for about 1300 usd, but I know that looking you can get all that for 800usd if you know where to look.. specially dell outlet with coupons.
I would really appreaciate help in this!

whitestazn88 wrote:no way dude, dell doesn't have any kind of deal on those, even refurbs, because dell doesn't make anything in that range. no big box pc maker is going to have any ssd larger than 128, and at that size you're paying out your nose for it. not to mention that full 1080p screens on laptops these days are rare, they're almost all 1600x900 or whatever. sager for sure will have the rig with the specs you want, but i mean, typically any independent graphics card (saying a min 1GB) will bring the cost of a standard laptop up 150 bucks, so that means you're finding a laptop at 650 with everything else you want? no way
whitestazn88 wrote:hm... might snag that one actually, i'm looking for something in that range as well, but i'm thinking i'll go with windows 8, try to get a newer video card, and downgrade the ram and hdd, cuz you can upgrade those for cheap. and I'd prefer the 3rd gen i5 processor

PC laptop manufacturers are stupid, it's hard to find a high-res screen.
Most of them don't include SSD's. Don't let it limit your selection, you can always upgrade to one later. And you should. SSD's seem to double/triple how fast your computer feels.
8gb ram is easy
ivy bridge is easy
some laptops have add-on video cards for playing games. If you don't play games, the intel HD 4000 is probably fine.
