Anyone down for a Civ II PBEM game?

Post by Army of GOD »

There's a site you can download Civ II for free; it's a small file so you don't have to worry about the size of it (all you have to do is un-rar it which is easy with a free program...you can uninstall the un-raring program afterwards).

We can do PBEM (play by email) which means all you do is go to your email, download the saved game someone sent you, open it, take your turn, save it, email it to the next person.

Don't be dicks now, I know you guys are interested (I'm looking at you BBS, Woodruff, others).

OMG This would be awesome. Give me a week to confirm.
What exact version are you talking about? Because I know they released gold and a multi-player something.

Gold, that's the only way you can play multiplayer.

Also I just posted this song in the video game soundtrack thread.

I'm down to play. I have Civ2 Gold MP Edition from a torrent...it should work fine. I'll probably get my ass kicked, but it will be fun nonetheless.

Do we need to exchange email addressed or something?

More than likely. I'll get a group PM going once we get saturated.

WELL FUCK YOU

er, I mean, that might slow the game down a bit. I was hoping to do sort of like a CC 24 hour limit thing.

If we had 8 players and we all took an almost-24 hour turn, it could go a week per round.

Just a thought: why don't we just play freeciv?

Pros:
It's free, legally
It's available on Mac, win, Linux, without those crazy win95 comp issues
We can have way more players and generally customize stuff better

Cons
The graphics aren't as nice (but they are customizable)
No music/wonder videos

I'd probably be interested but I've never played and would probable lose pretty quickly. Link the site for the download and I'll check it out.

Also I'm going to hunt for the music, because after we (me and my bros) lost our CD, we just played a downloaded version, which didn't have the music, nor the "I concur, your excellency" which was missed... :( :D

Also, my brother suggested we start from a scenario, that way we don't have to worry about, at the beginning when you're just clicking space 20 times :P
Any Ideas?

(I got back into it, and played an old save game of Rise of Rome campaign for 20 minutes last night)

The scenarios are generally unfair. Can you imagine playing Rise of Rome as the Celts?

I should just note that I do actually love the scenarios (it's the only reason I still sometimes play Civ2 instead of just Freeciv) and I would be up for some such game.

here's the game: http://www.gameswin.biz/gameen.php?id=25

you have to un-rar it but you can do that easily with this: http://download.cnet.com/RarZilla-Free- ... 47724.html

The two games won't work with each other.

Good, because that game seems pretty fucking boring.
