According to the articles I'm reading these kind of knife attacks have been going on in China for some time..._sabotage_ wrote:An established problem?
What was your point again?I lived in China for seven years and never felt threatened once and would have much preferred to be threatened by a knife than a gun. As a father, I would much rather collect my son from a hospital than a morgue. A further point is that when the police approach you, they come at you with clubs as a last resort. In America, they use guns as a first resort. I was told, last time I was in the states, that America is the only free country in the world. This information was quite new to me, since I hadn't been around and had just come through the TSA search at the airport.

Trouble is it appears to be a commonly held belief (delusion) going by what I read on this forum and not likely to change soon._sabotage_ wrote:An established problem? I asked two very clear questions in the beginning which you rudely ignored. They were:_sabotage_ wrote:Knife attacks have been going on for sometime in a country with 1.4 billion people? You don't say.
Your thread, what's your point?

What are you saying? To clarify my point, or the purpose of this thread, was to host a discussion based on these two questions. I suspect that many will have an emotional response and logically inconsistent views with their positions on related issues.GabonX wrote:I asked two very clear questions in the beginning which you rudely ignored. Your thread, what's your point?
Considering that knife attacks on crowds of people are an established problem in China, should the Chinese government consider banning knives?
Also,
Why don't we see these kinds of attacks in other countries where knives are legal?

Are you asking why you personally don't see the reports? Or are you saying that they only happen in China? Japan has had a few knife rampages, as has the UK and the US. Just going by the countries I've lived in on this.GabonX wrote:I asked two very clear questions in the beginning which you rudely ignored. Apologies for my lack of clarity, the belief I was referring to was that America,by which I presume the US is meant,is the only free country in the world,or even an especially free one.Not only is this delusional but it is fatuous.GabonX wrote:What are you saying? The question was whether or not they should be banned..._sabotage_ wrote:Knives are not legal to carry around.

I'm not sure how this thread is biased and without credibility. Again, the recent US shooting has no bearing on this. Are you suggesting that people can't kill with knives?Iliad wrote:US lunatic attacks school with guns: 20+ dead.

Hmmm.

I was responding to a comment by Sabotage. There is more than a touch of irony in being schooled in the correct use of my mother tongue by a North American, lol.GabonX wrote:So what I think you mean to say is;chang50 wrote:Apologies for my lack of clarity, the belief I was referring to was that America,by which I presume the US is meant,is the only free country in the world,or even an especially free one.Not only is this delusional but it is fatuous.GabonX wrote:What are you saying? I also believe that Obama's restructuring of airport security and other encroachments on our liberties is disheartening, but I don't see what those issues have to do with this thread.
It has a lot of bearing on it. Exact same kind of crime, bizarrely so. People can kill with knives, but it's clearly a lot harder.GabonX wrote:Again, the recent US shooting has no bearing on this. Also, please answer the questions in the OP if you want to participate.
There's also irony in the fact that I could kick your ass in your own national sport, Muay Thai, but I digress...chang50 wrote:

Should they or shouldn't they in your view? Usually the way questions work is that someone asks a question and someone else answers it. I don't see how asking each other the same question back and forth is productive, and that's not the intention of this thread._sabotage_ wrote:Yes, you are right. Should knives, which are illegal to carry around, be banned in China?
