The Fault with Germany Map

Post by ben1212 »

I have played the Germany map enough times on Standard,Escalating Spoils, Unliminted, to know one flaw with this map and settings(1v1). Whoever starts first will win. Everytime I played and went first, I won, regardless of the rank of my opponent. So this map is one to be avoided if you enjoy strategy and one to love if your a cook (because you'll soon get 50% wins). Feel free to try it out with me.

9 out of 10 maps that you play 1 v 1 with unlimited forts will go to whoever has first turn due to the first player to reinforce multiple territories allowing them to get a good foothold in certain positions that will be key to the game.

1 v 1 is the hardest game to have a balanced type of play in.

1st turn always has advantage in 1 v 1.
(especially on maps where you start with 12/15/18 territories where you can easily reduce your opponents territory count by 1 with 1 winning attack. or on very large maps where it is easy to gain a stronghold in a key area of the map and drop your opponents deploy)

Well. It's the same at ANY map. 1x1 is not balanced. 2x2 is not balance. I dare say it aint even Risk.

Yeah, allow me to join in the chorus. It's always an advantage to go first in any game. In 1v1 it's a much bigger advantage than in other modes, and Unlimited forts grossly increases the advantage. Never play 1v1 with Unlimited if you're worried about fairness. And no, it's not the map's fault.

Speaking of which, I suppose instead of farting around in the forums, I should be making some more Unlimited 1v1 games for HA and Grandilof....

As Dukasaur explained. 1x1 is not about fairness. It's about madness.

except if you play 1vs 1 with escalating spoils, then start second dont mean that you will lost.

In escalating everything are possibile.

For most 1vs1 games, throwing in escalating spoils actually just adds another pot-luck variable.

I took a quick look at the games between Grandilof and HA. I don't know how the rest of the games went, but in the first four games, each player won 2 games, but the first player only won 50% of the time.

Going first is a significant advantage (and this is true in many games, including chess), but it doesn't guarantee the win.

the first set u can have is with 4 spoils for sure( sometimes u cant trade with even 4 spoils), thats 4 rounds
until u can use the spoils it may be already game over, many games finish in round 7 already
escalating in 1 vs1 is no guarantee, in a 8 player games, esc can pay off
