Does pepper spray work on a dog? Or does it just get them more upset?crispybits wrote:Gunshots were over the top - should have just pepper sprayed it or something... (they did need to do something tho, the dog was attacking by the looks of it)

It works the same as it works on humans - the dog might go beserk but if it cant see you then it's unlikely it will be able to hurt you if you have your wits about you and police self defence training...puppydog85 wrote:Does pepper spray work on a dog? He wasn't arrested, it was a Terry Stop. One of the homes in the neighborhood had called 911 after masked men had stormed into the house and taken everyone hostage. During the standoff, a man with a Rotweiler crossed the police perimeter and started walking around the empty police cars, shouting things toward the house and driving up and down the street with his windows rolled down and stereo turned up.jonesthecurl wrote:I didn't have sound on - what did they arrest the guy for?

U.S. District Court, Maine District wrote:Officers may take necessary steps to protect themselves if the circumstances reasonably warrant such measures without transforming a Terry stop into an arrest. This includes drawing weapons when reasonable, such as when officers are faced with a report of an armed threat. The First Circuit has also allowed the reasonable use of handcuffs and backup officers as the situation requires.
However, the transport of a suspect from the scene of the stop, particularly to a police station, has been held to turn a Terry stop into an arrest requiring probable cause.

I've never been a fan of cops. They were not justified in doing the Terry stop on the owner imo. However, I believe he was justified in killing the dog. The owner was irresponsible for not securing the animal, and it was obviously a large dog with the potential to cause some harm.waauw wrote:

I suspect you of bias, Mr. PUPPYDOG!puppydog85 wrote:Does pepper spray work on a dog? Or does it just get them more upset?crispybits wrote:Gunshots were over the top - should have just pepper sprayed it or something... (they did need to do something tho, the dog was attacking by the looks of it)
I can vouch for that..notyou2 wrote:Dogs have masters. Cats have staff.
problem is, usually aggressive dogs immediately attack. This one didn't, which means the shooting was unnecessary. This wasn't an aggessive dog. However the police officer clearly didn't know how to treat dogs. Nearing the dog and especially suddenly stretching your are from above towards the dog is a sign of aggressiveness, or at least from the dog's perspective. Everybody who knows a bit about dog psychology knows this. This police officer was poorly trained imo. He did everything to provoke the dog.TA1LGUNN3R wrote:I've never been a fan of cops.
