SaxBucks By The Numbers: A Semi-Statistical Analysis [POLL]

Postby AndyDufresne on Sat Mar 22, 2014 2:01 pm

SaxBucks seemed ripe for a semi-statistical analysis since they are the de facto currency of the Off Topics (though that pesky upstart Conquer Stars is making a bid to change that, economists think SaxBucks will continue to have long lasting staying power, longer than Conquer Stars). So let's take a look at SaxBucks by the numbers.

RATIONALE: SaxBucks only valid and tallied if awarded in the Off Topics Forum. Typically this is seen as: "+50 SaxBucks" in a post.

Where the "+" was not included, I've made my best judgment to understand the the nature of the transaction taking place.

"SaxBucks" in a few different spelling permutations have been allowed: SaxBucks, SxBucks, Sax Bucks, Sax Bux, SaxBux.

  • Transactions not included: Lending of SaxBucks from one poster to another; Negative transactions where collection of SaxBucks was not immediate (e.g. INVALID: "You owe me 1,000 SaxBucks." vs VALID: "-200 SaxBucks for your post.")

Though SaxBucks were solely the domain of the institution of Saxitoxin for the initial early stages of the currency trade, over the years new institutions have begun trading in SaxBucks. For a list of these other institutions, see the appropriate dataset below.

  • Additional Note of Caution: SaxBucks are a semi-volatile currency, and are notoriously difficult to track. Thus, while this attempts to be the complete record of SaxBucks in the Off Topics Forum, minor omissions may have been made.

You're missing "SxBx." There are a total of 875 more to add.

Yes, we have a bad inflation problem.

Its okay, I owe you over 5 billion of the darn things, but I just gave away all my legal tender on this site to TGD. In other news, I've hired TGD to file legal bankruptcy for me everywhere where AoGRubles are accepted, and since all of my debts are thus effectively cleared I'm now a free man. :ugeek: Don't worry I'm still gonna get my monthly income, but now you won't get any of it.
(BTW this is probably the cause of your inflation)
Toodles,
Ponzi
P.S.
I have attached a copy of an approved loan of 10 billion AoGRubles, which will be promptly spent since the debt clearing will take effect tonight at midnight.
Congratulations.

Q-1: How is virtual currency treated for federal tax purposes?

A-1: For federal tax purposes, virtual currency is treated as property. General tax principles applicable to property transactions apply to transactions using virtual currency.

Andy - for the last time, I don't do pro bono work.

But, you're in luck. I wrote a significant paper on the classification of Saxbucks for the United States Tax Journal of Awesomeness. Long story short, Saxbucks are currency and subject to the currency gain/loss restrictions associated with exchanging dollars (or AOGRubles) for Saxbucks. Suffice it to say, it's very complicated and boring.
